What to Expect at Living Proof Live

The first time I ever went to a LPL event I honestly had no idea what to expect. It was being held in my hometown and I decided to gather some girls from my church and head over for the weekend. The LPL event is a Friday evening and Saturday morning event so we left Friday morning with the hope of arriving early enough to check into our hotel and get to the doors before they opened. We arrived at the doors around 1:30pm and the doors open at 5:30. Needless to say we were the first people there but not for long. If you attend one of these events you will quickly learn that if you want a floor seat you must arrive early. It is a fun time to meet other women and the time usually passes quickly.

Once the doors open it is a mad rush to the floor and the “best” seats. It is a bit daunting to wait for so long and then rush to get a seat however it usually pays off with comfortable seats and a nice location.

Once you are settled it is a good idea to hit the bathrooms and concessions since the lines for both can get very long. If you plan wisely you can wait until a later time right before Beth speaks and right after Travis’s worship when the lines are virtually gone. Also, some arenas have downstairs “hidden” bathrooms. They are usually accessible from the floor area. The arena attendants can show you where they are located.

On Friday night the event will begin with praise and worship and it starts at 6:30pm. Travis and the praise team lead you through a wonderful time of praise and worship so try not to miss it. The worship usually lasts about 30-40 minutes and readies your mind for the Word you are about to receive.

On Friday night, Beth Moore will speak for about an hour and a half. Get ready to be awe inspired by what God will reveal to you through such a gifted and passionate teacher of God’s word. Beth is engaging and funny so the time will go by quickly. Make sure you are ready to write and bring an extra notebook if you like to take notes (I always run out of room). At the end of Friday evening the event will conclude with another 30 minutes +/- of praise and worship. The event finishes a bit late usually around 9pm or later. Make sure you head back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep because you will need it for Saturday.

Saturday morning comes early for those of us who like the “best” seats. I usually arrive at the doors no later than 5 AM and the doors open at 7. This can make for a long day so make sure you have a good breakfast and bring a snack to eat while waiting. The Saturday praise and worship begins at 8 and Beth will begin speaking at around 9. She will speak until 10:30 and then there is a 30 minute break. The event reconvenes around 11 and will go until 12.

My first event I made the mistake of leaving right after the event to drive home. Many women do that and if you live really close (within 2 hours or so) that would be ok however; it is an intense, emotional, and tiring 48 hours. I have learned to take the extra day to really meditate on what God has revealed to me over the conference weekend. It is also a fun time to go hang out with the girls and see what God has shown them as well. It is a bonding experience for sure!

Helpful Hints:

  1. The LPL event has general admission so do not think you can arrive when doors open and get a great seat. Chances are you will be in the top section otherwise known as the nose bleed seats
  2. If you decide to arrive early bring a snack and water bottle. I have seen too many women pass out, seriously, because they have waited for hours outside without food or drink
  3. Most arenas will not allow you to bring food or drink inside. Knowing this ahead of time will keep you from acting grumpy when they ask you to throw away those items
  4. Once the doors open DO NOT RUN, PUSH, TRIP, or THROW YOUR BIBLES to save a seat. In the 6 years I have attended, worked, organized and volunteered at these events I have seen it all. You are missing the point when you behave that way and it gets everyone off on the wrong foot
  5. Once inside the doors please do not save seats. The LifeWay staff recommends that if you want to sit together then come together.
  6. Plan ahead for bathroom and concession visits. The line for both can be up to 45 minutes long. Try to go as soon as you get there or go at the break between P&W and Beth speaking (about 3-5 minutes).
  7. Another tip is to go to the bathroom or concession right when Beth begins speaking. I know it is hard to miss any part of the event but the beginning is usually fun friendly banter and the women are already in their seats which means you can be in and out of those lines in under 5 minutes.
  8. Even though the event is over around noon on Saturday try to budget staying Saturday night. It is a great opportunity to meditate on what you have heard and a time to wind down from the experience. Plus if you have come with girlfriends it is some nice “girl time.”
  9. Make sure you eat something on Saturday at the break. It is only a short 30 minutes but it will recharge you for the next hour and half. I have made the mistake of not eating and feeling so sluggish that I feel like I miss the end.
  10. Last but not least, remember that when you attend one of these conferences it is because you want to grow in your relationship with God. This is not the time or place to worship the leaders. They are just God’s vessel to share what He wants us to know. So Go, Grow, Laugh, Love, Learn and ENJOY!!!!
