Canada In December

Montreal

No matter where you go you’re bound to run into a Christmas display or holiday activities. During the month of December, visitors can attend Festi Lumière at Aquarium du Québec which features not only hundreds of Christmas lights, but outdoor concerts and inflatable games for kids. One of the favorite Christmas markets among locals is the Old Port Market. It features over a 1,000 different handmade items that are perfect for Christmas gifts.

Toronto
Despite the rather chilly temperatures during the winter months in Toronto, many tourists flock to the area during the month of December. This is because there’s so much to do. There is an underground shopping complex that’s 17 miles long. It’s the perfect place to escape the cold. The Edward Castle is especially beautiful in the winter months, surrounded by snow. For those that are into sports, ice hockey is quite popular in December. It’s a great time to catch a Toronto Maple Leafs’ game. A popular event that takes place in December is the Christmas Treats Walk on December 26th which takes place at the Toronto Zoo. Those who participate in it will get to share holiday inspired food items with some of the animals.

Calgary
Calgary is a thriving city and over 1 million people call it home. It’s filled with galleries, shops, restaurants and theaters. There’s a lot for tourists to do in Calgary in December. Bowness Park recently reopened its skating rink and people are flocking from near and far to get a chance to try it out. On December 6th, Santa Claus goes running down the street in the Run With Santa Claus race. Participants will get a chance to chase after him while raising money for The Salvation Army. Another fun event is the Petro-Canada Teddy Bear Toss Game. This event occurs during the Calgary Hitmen game on December 7th. Spectators will have the opportunity to throw teddy bears on the rink as they try to beat the previous record of 26,919 bears on the ice at one time.
