2015’s Best Traveling Apps

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Traveling just got easier thanks to technology. Apps are so easy to use because they can be downloaded on your phone or tablet and are available pretty much whenever you need them. We know that you will probably be doing some traveling this year so to make your adventures a little easier, we’ve put together a guide of the best traveling apps to use in 2015.

Localeur
This app is similar to a guidebook. People living in a particular city share their experiences such as their favorite places to dine and visit. Each of the people that submit their opinions have a profile that lets readers know what their interests are. This makes it easy for travelers to find someone who has similar interests as them and to see which places they recommend in that particular destination.

SPG
This app allows travelers that stay at select Starwood Hotels to check into their hotel and unlock the door for them. This is perfect for busy travelers that don’t want to stand in line trying to find out which room they are staying. Some of the hotels that are offering this service include a few St. Regis and Sheraton hotels.

Travelzoo
If you are looking for an amazing travel deal then the Travelzoo app can be quite useful. It allows users to find everything from discounted hotels, cruises and car rentals. Users can even find some discounts on local activities and restaurants.

Airbnb
A less known way to save on accommodations is to stay at private lodging offered by an individual. While not everyone will be comfortable with this idea, some great deals can be had by using the Airbnb app. Currently there are over 600,000 listings of various accommodation types available.

Maps.me
You no longer have to carry around a pesky map while on vacation thanks to Maps.me. It allows you to download a map of the region that you are in. And if you’re lost, no problem! The Maps.me app will actually tell you where you are.

Translate
If you are going to a foreign country and don’t want to learn the language, you can probably get around with minimal help if you have the Translate app by Google. This app allows you to point your camera phone at a sign or written text and it will translate it to you in English. It’s very similar to the app Word Lens, but it’s 100% free. Currently this app can translate Russian, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German and French.

While many of these apps have been around for a little while and aren’t new, many travelers aren’t aware of them. We thought that they could be useful for your travels. Just make sure that when you download them you determine whether or not you will need an internet connection or not when you need to use it.

I would also include Spyglass into this list. Using augmented reality, the app overlays compass, GPS and location info on top of visuals captured by an iPhone camera or the map itself. It can measure distance, sizes of objects, your speed, altitude and potential arrival time to the target. You can use it as a waypoints tool, sextant, compass, rangefinder, speedometer, inclinometer and more. https://itunes.apple.com/app/spyglass/id332639548?mt=8&at=11lLc7&ct=c

If to speak about maps, I prefer using Spyglass app. It works great when offline, assuming that you pre-download maps that you need. It also has many useful features, such as marking waypoints, saving spots, measuring your speed and distance to the target, sharing locations with friends and much more. https://itunes.apple.com/app/spyglass/id332639548?mt=8&at=11lLc7&ct=c

Try iArrow. So simple and so useful app. This. It allows you to drop a marker anywhere you are and get back to that spot without cell service, without data. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iarrow/id626748307?mt=8
