Driving on any road can be nerve-wracking, especially if it’s a little difficult to navigate. Not all roads are a straight shot with smooth payment. In fact, some roads throughout the world have uneven payment, harrowing turns and steep inclines. Red Mountain Pass, Colorado
If you are afraid of heights it is not a good idea to go driving on this road. At its highest pint it’s 11,000 feet up in the air. One wrong turn and you will find yourself sliding down a mountain. Even though it’s filled with hairpin turns and some rather scary conditions at times, there’s also some amazing scenery along the way. Just remember to pay attention to the road.

Los Caracoles Pass, Chile
Getting an up-close view of the Andes Mountains sounds amazing right? Well it depends on if a twisty, rough road can make you sick. Los Caracoles Pass is difficult to navigate because of the extreme inclines that drivers face. However, it’s a popular route for locals on their way to Argentina or Chile.

Yungas Road, Bolivia
You know a road is dangerous when it has the nickname of “Death Road”. Not only does it have steep drops, but a surface that isn’t very firm. It’s very hard to get traction on this road, especially at high speeds. Between 200-300 people are killed on Yungus Road each year. If you ever find yourself driving on it, make sure that your seat belt is extra tight.

Eshima Ohahi Bridge, Japan
Even though this is technically a bridge, you still have to drive on it and it’s very terrifying to some drivers. It actually looks more like a roller coaster than a bridge as its highest point is 144 feet. The total length of the bridge is about a mile long. If you can keep from getting sick while driving up and down it, you might actually see neat boats to look at in the water.

If you ever find yourself on any of these terrifying roads while traveling, make sure you drive slow and pay attention to your surroundings. Save the picture taking for your passengers to do.
