Welcome to 2016 — the Chinese Year of the Red Fire Monkey! The 2016 Chinese New Year lasts from February 8th, 2016 to January 27th, 2017.   As the Chinese lucky color associated with 2016 is red, and the symbol for red is in the fire element group, and is also representative of the calendar character for Monkey, 2016 is the Red Fire Monkey Year.

Bring in the exciting new 2016 Year of the Red Fire Monkey with advice and predictions regarding love and success for the 12 Chinese zodiac signs.  The monkey is the ninth sign in Chinese astrology. The number “9” is associated with ambition, activity, smartness, mischief and adventure. The fire element represents passion, joy and creativity.  Astrologists warn to stay focused and not “chase your tail” which monkey minds are prone to.  Overall, it will be a great year for Dragons, Rats & Monkeys – opportunities and inspiration surround you.  Goats, Rabbit, Ox, Rooster and Horses can expect good years, while a more challenging year awaits Tigers, Snakes & Dogs.

Take a look at your 2016 Chinese horoscope forecast to discover what is in store for you this year!

Your Fire Monkey Year Horoscope 2016

RAT – Many Monkey-inspired surprises await you in the coming year. 2016 will be a fun and exciting time for you and your best friends, Monkey and Dragon. Red Monkey Year is full of possibility and an excellent time to jump into change by launching a new endeavor, getting engaged or married, or having a child. Make sure to periodically take a breather and rethink your strategies and goals when needed, particularly during the 2016 Mercury retrograde cycles. Travel on a cruise or go to an all-inclusive resort.  It is not recommended you engage in any extreme sports or activities.  Romantic prospects are most encouraging with other Rats, Dragons, Monkeys or Oxen.  Lucky Numbers 2 & 3 Lucky Colors: Blue, Green & Violet Chinese: 鼠 shǔ  Years of the Rat:  1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020.

OX – Wily Monkey’s vibrant energy will add some liveliness to your standard routine and luck will be on your side this year. While Monkey’s hectic pace isn’t your style, (you prefer a naturally slow, steady journey), the new year is an invitation to consider a change of scenery and new experiences in anticipation of your lucky Rooster year in 2017. Learn to manage stress levels better to avoid illness.  If love is on your agenda this Monkey year, look for your most compatible signs: another Ox, a Serpent, Rooster or Rat. Avoid Sheep.  Lucky Numbers 1, 5 & 9 Lucky Colors: Purple, Red & Blue  Chinese: 牛 niú  Years of the Ox:  1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021

TIGER – While Monkey is your opposite sign, you’ll still experience plenty of activity and events in the Monkey year.  Don’t allow yourself to be too enthusiastic, though. Be careful with your plans – for example, schedule your vacation and outline your itinerary well in advance. Watch overspending. Considered having a detailed budget in place.  Looking for companionship in Monkey year? Another Tiger is your best bet, but Horse, Dog and Pig are compatible as well. Monkey, however, will be trouble.  Lucky Numbers 1, 3 & 4 Lucky Colors: White, Orange & Blue  Chinese: 虎 hǔ  Years of the Tiger:  1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022

RABBIT – Rabbit is in for a busy year! Monkey year brings opportunities for events like festival and fairs as well as fine dining and travel. Enjoy the Monkey fun, but don’t let yourself get worn out by too much activity. For sensitive Rabbit to remain balanced during Red Monkey Year, consider adjusting the Feng Shui of your home and office. Don’t surround yourself with negative people – perhaps it’s time to clean up your Facebook friend list to better devote time to those that deserve it and are supportive of your goals.  Another Rabbit will make a great mate, as will Sheep, Pig or Dog, but Rooster is not a compatible choice.  Lucky Numbers 3, 4 & 9 Lucky Colors: Red, Blue, Pink & Purple Chinese: 兔 tù  Years of the Rabbit:  1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011, 2023

DRAGON – Because Monkey is your best friend, this is your year — so say yes to every new experience! The vibrant and exciting Fire Monkey energy will create opportunities for success in business. Pay attention to detail to avoid lawsuits or other legal entanglements. Looking for love in Monkey year? Your love life will heat up with a fellow Dragon, a Rat, Monkey or Rooster, but a Dog would be bad news.  Lucky Numbers 1,6 & 7 Lucky Colors: Silver & Gold  Chinese: 龙 lóng  Years of the Dragon:  1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024

SNAKE – You and Monkey share a mutual energy, so luck is on your side this year. Summer months spent relaxing and basking in a sunny locale will help you avoid over-stimulation by balancing your yin with 2016 yang Fire energy. If you are searching for your soul mate in Monkey year, turn to another Snake. Ox, Rooster and Monkey are also compatible, but stay away from Pig.  Lucky Numbers 2, 8 & 9 Lucky Colors: Yellow, Red & Black  Chinese: 蛇 shé  Years of the Snake:  1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, 2025

HORSE – Fire Monkey Year’s active yang energy will inspire you to embark on new and exciting adventures and journeys. A year packed full of events and activities is ahead of you, but don’t overindulge and burn out too quickly. You may hear bad news during the year, but it will concern someone close to you and not you personally.  Looking for love in Monkey year? Equine companionship with another Horse is your best option, however, Dog, Tiger and Sheep can also keep up with you. The Rat is least compatible.  Lucky Numbers 2, 3 & 7 Lucky Colors: Yellow, Purple & Brown  Chinese: 马 mǎ  Years of the Horse: 1918, 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014, 2026

SHEEP – 2015’s Sheep year was a successful one for Sheep, and that will continue to follow into the new year. Be careful about giving in to the extravagance and luxuries that Monkey Years inspire by watching your spending and saving up for planned expenses like travel and leisure activities. Spend time outdoors to keep healthy.  Not surprisingly, Sheep enjoy other Sheep’s company, but a Pig, Rabbit or Horse would make a welcome suitor as well. Stubborn Ox is not a good match for good-natured Sheep.  Lucky Numbers 3, 4 & 9 Lucky Colors: Purple, Red & Green  Chinese: 羊 yáng  Years of the Sheep: 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015, 2027

MONKEY – With the powerful, fiery, yang energy of Red Monkey, this is your year for action, Monkeys! While all four seasons will be lucky for fortunate Monkey, the autumn months will be your most successful. 2016 is amenable to starting new endeavors, making big changes, and success in business ventures. Seek new experiences by traveling to new horizons and taking risks that will be rewarded. 2016 is a wild year for pairing up with another Monkey, though Rats, Dragons and Snakes are strong love interest contenders as well. Monkeys and Tigers are not well-matched.  Lucky Numbers 1, 7 & 8 Lucky Colors: Gold, Blue & White   Chinese: 猴 hóu  Years of the Monkey: 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016, 2028

ROOSTER – Also known as the Phoenix, you are always open to transforming experiences. This new year also brings opportunities to be reborn and transformed are willing to take risks and look for alternative solutions. Red Fire Monkey Year will bring excitement, adventures, and new experiences, which will prepare you for a resurrection in Fire Phoenix year 2017. This does not mean that you wont have your share of agitation and frustration in 2016.  Keep your priorities in focus.  Look to fellow Roosters for love and friendship, but don’t count out Ox, Snake or Rabbit as a partner.  Lucky Numbers 5, 7 & 8 Lucky Colors: Yellow, Gold & Brown  Chinese: 鸡 Jī  Years of the Rooster: 1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017, 2029

DOG – Loyal and good-natured, Dog will find Monkey Year bringing positive yang energy to the table, enabling you to rack up multiple accomplishments. Always eager for new experiences, Dogs will find much to pursue in the areas of travel and personal involvement in activities that inspire hobbies and projects. While the burst of Monkey energy may be encouraging, don’t allow yourself to be unrealistic – be responsible when making plans. Watch for challenges or changes in your job.  Avoid Dragons in your personal relationships. Dogs are most comfortable with the companionship of other Dogs, but also enjoy Tigers, Horses and Rabbits.  Lucky Numbers 3, 4 & 9 Lucky Colors: Red, Green & Purple    Chinese: 狗 gǒu  Years of the Dog: 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018, 2030

PIG – Fire Monkey Year energy is going to be good for Pigs, inspiring you to be the center of attention and the life of the party. With a bevy of whirlwind activities awaiting you in this exciting new year, take advantage of travel opportunities and accept all social invitations, but don’t allow anyone to take advantage of your kindness or generosity. Boost your immune system to avoid health problems.  Pigs will find true love if they pursue other Pigs, Sheep or Rabbits, as long as they stay away from incompatible Snakes.  Lucky Numbers 2, 5 & 8 Lucky Colors: Brown, Gold & Yellow  Chinese: 猪 zhū  Years of the Pig: 1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019, 2031

YEAR OF THE RED FIRE MONKEY

2016 is not only the year of the Red Fire Monkey, it also marks the 4,713th Year on the Chinese Calendar! With nearly 5,000 years under its belt we would think by now that it would not be a bad idea to possibly listen, and in this section of our infographic, we will be diving into what lies in wait… The monkey is the ninth of twelve earthly branches called the ‘Shen’ branch in the Chinese calendar. The monkey is a bright, clever, and creative animal. They are said to be problem solvers, and while they are capable of working in a group, they exhibit an individuality associated with achievers. However, the Monkey is frequently considered the ‘Symbol of Trickery’. On the positive side, the monkey represents irrepressible curiosity and creative energy. The monkey will not hesitate to test his or her theories, experiment, or think the unthinkable. On the negative side, those problem-solving propensities can quickly become tricky and opportunistic. What does this all mean for those of us who were and were not born on a Monkey Year? This mischievous animal bursts with excitement, bringing a fast pace and fantastical stimulus. The Monkey increases communication and wit, helping us get through demanding times with grace and ease. Business flourishes and risks tend to pan out. The Monkey has a gift and it is the ability to find eccentric results to timeworn problems. Daring to be different can lead to victory – Fortune Will Favor The Bold!FAMOUS PEOPLE BORN IN THE YEAR OF THE MONKEY

Chinese New Years Lucky Foods

Food traditions are very important during the Chinese New Year. Based on Chinese symbolism, there is a meaning that’s extracted for certain dishes including fruits, dumplings and roasting nuts. The Chinese symbol for Crucian Carp means: Good Luck as the Chinese symbol for Mud Carp
means: Gifts. Fish dishes are also normally served because fish symbolizes hope for having a wealthy and prosperous new year ahead.Lucky Foods Include:
  • Citrus Fruit: Because of their golden color, Tangerines are thought to represent prosperity in the new year. The Chinese symbol for Tangerine sounds like the word ‘Success’. Furthermore, Tangarines are utilized as a way to find a love partner. A single woman would write her name and number on the tangerines and throw them in the river. A single man would collect them and eat the tangerines. The taste would then be
    an indication of their possible.
  • Seafood: Fish is served whole with head and tail, symbolizing the end of one year and the beginning of another. Catfish, mud
carp and crucian carp are popular fish dishes. When set down on the table, the head of the fish should be placed towards the family elder or head of the
household representing respect. Eating two fish (one on New Year’s Eve and another on New Year’s Day) would be a wish for superfluous luck year after year.
  • Spring Rolls: Due to the fact that fried spring rolls look as if they were gold bars, consuming them on New Year’s Day is wishing for prosperity. In addition to Spring Rolls’ resemblance to Gold Bars, the cabbage filling inside is said to bring Extra Wealth.
