Longer TSA Lines And How To Cope
There will be a record number of passengers taking to the skies this spring. The TSA released a statement saying that the amount of passengers flying will increases dramatically from now through the summer. What does this mean besides crowded airports and planes? Long TSA lines of course. Here are five things you can do to cope.
- Consider Doing A PreCheck
The TSA PreCheck lane is often times a lot quicker to get through than the other TSA lanes. How it works is that you pre-register online and then make an appointment where you will undergo an interview at an application center. If you are declared a “low risk” you will get a traveler number known as a KTN. This will allow you to use the “special” line at over 150 airports in the United States as well as some international airports. Most major airlines participate in this including American Airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines.
- Have The Right Stuff
Want to expedite your time in the TSA line? Have the right stuff with you. It’s helpful to have slip on shoes and see through bags that are in your carry-on. You don’t want to be stuck holding up the line because it takes you several minutes to get your shoes on and off.
- Have Everything Ready
It’s also important to know where all your items are in your bag and how to easily remove them. This will make it easier to show your ID and put everything in the bins in a matter of seconds when the time comes. Even if you don’t think you will have to take a particular item out of your bag to be checked, it doesn’t mean that it won’t happen so make sure you can get all of your items easily in and out of your carry-on and it’s not packed to the gills.
- Allow Yourself Enough Time
You never can predict how long you will be stuck in a TSA line. Make sure you plan accordingly and allow yourself enough time to get through the line and on your flight. Realistically you should arrive at the airport at least several hours before your flight is scheduled to take off. As annoying as it might be to have to wait in these lines, it will be a lot more stressful if you find yourself checking your watch every few minutes because you are worried that you are going to miss your flight.
- Have Something With You To Occupy Your Time
One of the best ways to cope in a long line is to occupy your time. Make sure your phone is fully charged so you can text friends, watch videos or surf the internet. You can also strike up a conversation with your travel companions or some fellow travelers that are also waiting in line.
