Watching Football on Thanksgiving Day
Football has become synonymous with Thanksgiving. Professional football has been played on Thanksgiving since 1920. Currently three NFL games are played every Thanksgiving. In many households it’s one of their favorite parts of turkey day. We’ve included not only information about the upcoming big games, but some interesting facts about Thanksgiving football so that you can prepare for all of the upcoming action.
Interesting Facts
-Until 2006 Thanksgiving Day games were only played in Dallas and Detroit. Since 2006, games have been played at variety of different cities and evening games have been added as well.
-Two teams have never played in a Thanksgiving Day game: the Jaguars and the Panthers.
-With the exception of 1941-1944, when no football games were played because of WWII, the Detroit Lions have played in every Thanksgiving Day game. Coincidentally they have the most wins and losses on Thanksgiving Day.
– Since 1966 the Cowboys have played in every Thanksgiving Day game and have the second most wins.
– Cincinnati and Tampa Bay have never won a Thanksgiving Day game.
Games to Watch
Thursday:
Minnesota Viking and Detroit Lions at 12:30 p.m. on CBS
This is the first game of the big Thanksgiving weekend games. The Viking and the Lions will be battling it out in a match that will keep you off your chairs. It’s sure to be a matchup that you don’t want to miss.
Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys at 4:30 p.m. on FOX
Make sure you finish Thanksgiving dinner early so that you can watch this big game.
Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts at 8:30 p.m. on NBC
After all the pie has been eaten it’s time for this long awaited for game.
If this isn’t enough football for you there will be 12 different football games to watch on Sunday. Put down the turkey leg, save the dishes for later and let’s get ready for some football!
