Bangkok: The Often Overlooked City
Thailand isn’t always the number one destination choice for travelers. Cities like Bangkok, have a lot to offer. Despite this city being thought of as expensive, it can be a great choice for travelers who know where to go and what to do.
Terminal 21 Shopping Mall
You probably aren’t thinking about going to the shopping mall while in Bangkok. However, it’s a great place to go for food. It’s normally packed with hungry patrons as you can get a decent meal for a few bucks. There’s everything from traditional Thai dishes to Chinese and even vegetarian options. While it isn’t exactly fine dining, it’s a good place to try a variety of good dishes for a low price.
Hotels
You certainly can find dirt cheap hotel rates while in Bangkok, but this is an area where you can also splurge. You can get accommodations at a 5-star hotel, like the Banyan Tree, for around $100. It’s not often that you can find such a low price per night on a luxury hotel. If you have a little more to spend, consider going over to Hua Hin. This community, located on the water, has many accommodations for around $200 a night for their most expensive rooms.
Chatuchak Street Market
This is Thailand’s largest street market. It has over 8,000 stalls to visit. There’s a lot different types of items to choose from including electronics and apparel. Now, the quality of the items isn’t always that greatest so visitors really need to pay attention to how the items are put together. The prices are low though so it’s worth stopping at to pick up a few souvenirs to take home. You can easily spend an entire day here just browsing around, looking at everything.
Chinatown
Even Bangkok has its own Chinatown. It consists of a lot of vendors and is a great place to go in the evening. There are a lot of restaurants nearby such as Issaya Siamese Club, where you can get a good meal at a good price.
Cooking Class
Wouldn’t it be great to leave Thailand with the knowledge on how to make a simple Thai meal? Throughout Bangkok and the surrounding areas there are many cooking classes available to choose from. Participants can learn how to make things like chicken satay or hot and sour soup. Popular cooking schools include: Silom Thai Cooking School and Thai Homecooking.
