New Long Haul Flight Amenities For Singapore Airlines

Being on a plane for 18 hours can be brutal. Singapore Airlines is trying to make it a little bit easier on its passengers that opt for a very long haul flight. Singapore Airlines just completed the longest non-stop flight in the world. They took passengers on an 18 ½ hours, 9,534 mile journey from Singapore to Newark. Onboard there wasn’t an economy class, but there were 67 business class seats as well as 94 premium economy seats. In order to make the flight not only bearable, but actually pleasant, they offered passengers a variety of amenities that aren’t normally found on board an airplane.

Better Food
One of the worst parts about flying is that the food isn’t often great. Meals on the Newark-Singapore route are provided by the Canyon Ranch Spa. They are not only be tasty, but healthy as well. They include dishes like prawn ceviche or seared organic chicken. The food on this flight is meant to sustain you throughout your long flight. You won’t find a lot of fillers or unhealthy ingredients. You’ll also be provided with plenty of beverages to keep you dehydrated and fueled throughout your time on the plane.

Soreness Relief
If you’ve ever been on a flight for a while you know how sore you may feel not only during the flight, but afterwards as well. Singapore Airlines offers videos that show guided stretching exercises to help passengers keep from feeling uncomfortable during a flight. These videos are demonstrated by exercise physiologists from Canyon Ranch. Each video is available to view on the TVs found on the back of each seat. In addition to these videos, there is an e-library that also includes videos that pertain to sleep strategies to help those that are having issues sleeping.

Amenity Kits
Passengers can create their own amenity kit with items that they might find useful to have during their long flight. Passengers can choose things to put in their kit like a toothbrush and toothpaste, shaving kit, hand cream and even a laundry kit that includes items like a crease remover, stain remover and a fabric refresher. All of these items can be put in a small, rectangular black bag with a zipper that has the Singapore Airlines logo on it. These items allow passengers to have a more enjoyable experience during their flight as they won’t have to do without certain personal care items that they might find that they are in need of while on the plane.

The World’s Longest Sea Bridge Is Now Open

Now, there’s an easier way to get from Hong Kong to Macau, for some people that is. The longest sea bridge in the world is now officially opened. However, this structure is not your ordinary bridge. Here’s what makes it so unique.

The Unique Construction Of It
This 34 mile bridge is a pretty pricey structure. It cost $20 billion dollars to build it. It’s made out of a whopping 400,000 tons of steel. To put it into perspective, this is the equivalent to around 60 Eiffel Towers. The amount of money spent and the materials used will allow the bridge to withstand major earthquakes as well as typhoons that are up to 211 mph. There are 3 elements of this bridge. The first one is a little over 18 miles long and has an artificial island at the end of it. The next part of the bridge is less than 5 miles long and is followed by a 44-meter deep tunnel. Around the border crossing to Hong Kong, drivers will come upon a merge point where they will have to switch from driving on the right-hand side of the bridge (which is typical in China) to the left-hand side (which is typical in Hong Kong). The unique design of the bridge allows boats to still be able to sail easily through the water without the bridge interfering with that. This was a crucial part of the design.

Keeping Drivers Safe
One of the drawbacks of this bridge is that pile-ups can happen. One way that officials are trying to avoid this is to make drivers wear heart monitors. These monitors can alert them if a driver is having some sort of medical issue that they need to be aware of. Cameras have also been installed along the bridge so that those monitoring them can watch for excessive yawning and act accordingly if a driver appears to be falling asleep at the wheel. If a driver yawns at least 3 times in 20 seconds an alert is raised.

Unfortunately, not many people will be able to use this bridge, at least currently. As of this time, permits are needed to use it and it’s mostly restricted to charity donors or those with elite political affiliations. This isn’t the only bridge that China holds a world record for. In 2016 they also built the highest bridge in the world.

New Celebrity Edge Cruise Ship Offer the Most Unique Dining Option on a Ship to Date

Would you like to have lunch 14 stories above the ocean, projected out 25 feet over the side of the ship on a 9-ton tubular steel Platform? Demand for the venue, dubbed “The Magic Carpet” by Celebrity Cruises, is sure to be high when the Celebrity Edge arrives in Fort Lauderdale in November.

The first thing to note is the view, which is panoramic from the “perch” adjacent to Deck 14. The “Magic Carpet” is designed to accommodate up to 100 diners with seventeen tables set up for four to eight people, plus lounge seating at either end with coffee tables that can be used for meals. Part of the magic of the “Magic Carpet” is that it ascends and descends the side of the ship, stopping at several decks. It takes about 10 minutes for the platform to move from Deck 1 to Deck 14.

Meals are also planned for when the platform is stopped on Deck 5, where it will serve as an extension of the seafood raw bar.

Over the past few years, cruise lines have been experimenting with features that take guests beyond the edge of the ship. The Magic Carpet makes the efforts of other cruise lines look timid by upgrading the experience by several levels. Various ships have waterslides that loop out over the side. Princess has its Seaview glass-bottom walk and Norwegian has “The Plank”.
