Adventures by Disney New York City Tour

In recent years the definition of adventure travel has morphed from hiking up mountains and ziplining through rainforests to include anything that coaxes travelers out of their comfort zone. Traveling with kids adds a lot of moving parts to any itinerary, and sometimes just getting to your destination in one piece is an adventure.  The Adventure by Disney New York City Short Escape vacation offers a fresh look at some of the city’s most iconic destinations and an entire menu of interactive elements that families would have rough time duplicating on their own.

The InterContinental Times Square offers floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Eighth Avenue and the property’s amenities are above average.  Disney customizes the order of events it offers depending on the weather in New York. For example, a group might attend a hit Broadway play on a different night than the planned program, so they can get the best seats.  The “Ride” is an interactive bus tour with the vehicle being set up so that everyone faces outward and the itinerary takes in all the sights a family would expect to see: Times Square, Madison Avenue, the Chrysler Building, Radio City Music Hall and the Empire State Building, but with a twist.

At various points along the way, the onboard staff interacts with passersby who are part of the show. Rappers, break dancers and a ballet dancer in a tutu and toe shoes perform on the sidewalk.  A Good Morning America  studio tour is on the agenda with VIP access back stage. A private tour of the New Amsterdam Theater, a landmark building that was once home of the Ziegfeld Follies and where Disney’s Aladdin is playing, is a highlight.  They allow guests to try on some of the costumes from various Disney theater hits from the Lion King to Newsies.

A Broadway workshop in a private rehearsal studio, gives guests the opportunity to get up on stage and interact with the performers. A portion of a song and dance is taught from the musical “Frozen.” An evening performance of Frozen is included at the St. James Theater.  This full three-night tour also includes a Harlem history tour, the September 11 Museum and Memorial, a stop at the one World Observatory at One World Trade Center and a private tour and dinner at the Tenement Museum on the Lower East side.
