Election staff stops voter fraud

In regard to April 1 letters about government waste and voter ID photo cards, it was my privilege to be on a receiving board for voting in Douglas County for about 30 years.

Erroneous voting cards being sent out is not a new thing in the annals of the election board. Mistakes happen. We are all human.

I can also say that we definitely need a voter ID law in this state. Many say we have not had any voter fraud in Nebraska and we do not need a voter ID law.

We have not had any voter fraud only because there have been good and responsible people on the receiving boards who had their wits about them.

Some have tried to vote illegally in Nebraska. But good receiving board people, asking the right questions, have discouraged those trying to vote illegally.

It could happen in the upcoming primary. A voter ID law is like many things people claim we do not need until it happens. Then it is too late.

Voters not well represented

Two March 28 news stories, “Bill to require voters to have ID is dead for the year” and “ACT, SAT will require photo with applications,” make me wonder what this country has come to.

The No. 1 priority of any democracy is to ensure that the voting process has integrity and is legitimate.

A recent poll indicated that more than 80 percent of Nebraskans approved of the bill to require a photo ID to vote. However, some state senators were against this bill and prevented its passage.

It’s time we take back this country and vote out any politicians who do not represent their constituents. These senators are a threat to our liberty.
