Newt Gingrich to Megyn Kelly: “You’re Fascinated with Sex!”

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, one of Donald Trump’s most loyal supporters, engaged in a fiery confrontation with Fox News host Megyn Kelly Tuesday night when Kelly challenged him on the GOP nominee’s standing in the polls.

Kelly, who has had her own drama with Trump over the last year, asked Gingrich about recent poll numbers that appear to show the election slipping away. Gingrich acknowledged the polls while insisting that there were two “alternate universes” that made it impossible to know which numbers to trust. He then pointed out the extraordinary media bias that had turned Trump’s sexual allegations into the top story of the month while essentially ignoring the damning emails released by WikiLeaks.

“Let me point out something to you,” Gingrich said. “The three major networks spent 23 minutes attacking Donald Trump that night and 57 seconds on Hillary Clinton’s secret speeches. You don’t think this is a scale of bias worthy of Pravda and Izvestia?”

Kelly then asked if it wasn’t fair for the press to examine whether or not Trump was a “sexual predator,” a choice of words that appeared to anger the former Speaker.

“I am sick and tired of people like you using language that’s inflammatory that’s not true,” he said. “You are fascinated with sex, and you don’t care about public policy.”

“You know, Mr. Speaker, I’m not fascinated by sex, but I am fascinated by the protection of women and understanding what we’re getting in the Oval Office,” Kelly replied.

Gingrich wasn’t having it. “You want a comment on whether the Clinton ticket has a relationship to a sexual predator?” he asked. “I want to hear you use the words ‘Bill Clinton, sexual predator.’ I dare you. Say ‘Bill Clinton, sexual predator.’”

Kelly didn’t accept the challenge, instead defending her position by saying that Bill Clinton was not on the ticket.

“He’ll be in the East Wing,” Gingrich said.

Kelly brought the interview to a cold conclusion, telling Gingrich that he should spend some time dealing with his “anger issues.”

“You, too,” Gingrich said.

Regardless of how you, Newt, or Megyn feel about it, there’s no denying that the Access Hollywood tape and the subsequent sexual assault allegations against Trump have had a huge impact on this election. And whether or not there is any merit to those accusations, it’s absurd to pretend as though the media should – or could – ignore them. Anyone who was around in the late 90s can remember when Monica Lewinsky coverage dominated a year’s worth of television and print. Megyn Kelly may not be personally “fascinated with sex,” but the American public certainly is.

This preoccupation could, on November 8, cost us dearly.

Perhaps, though, it’s closer to the truth to say that it already has.
