‘Delusional’ Democrats considering ‘silly’ deal in Gorsuch confirmation

A group of democrats believes they have leverage in the Neil Gorsuch nomination fight and is working on a plan that would weaken republicans during the next supreme court confirmation. The “deal” would commit democrats to confirm Judge Gorsuch with a full 60 votes in return for a republican promise not to change senate rules for future nominees. Senate rules require 60 votes to avoid a filibuster and confirm a nominee. There are only 52 republicans in the senate so eight democrats would have to vote with the GOP to confirm Gorsuch. The democrats deal is only a good one for … democrats. “Democrats must be delusional to think that Leader McConnell or any of his Republican colleagues would reward Democrats for their awful treatment of Neil Gorsuch,” said Leonard Leo, who advised Trump on the Supreme Court. “One way or the other his confirmation is all but assured.” Judge Gorsuch’s confirmation is a foregone conclusion. If democrats oppose him, they will oppose any future Trump nominee no matter how strong a candidate. Promising to keep the senate rules intact for a future nominee would make it impossible for the president to get anyone confirmed – which is the goal of the democrats.
