The Libkiddy Talking Point today: President Donald Trump is indeed under investigation for obstruction of justice.

The Report

The Washington Post reported Wednesday, citing yet more anonymous sources, that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is now investigating Trump for obstruction of justice.

The special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russia’s role in the 2016 election is interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice, officials said.

Shady Sourcing

Special Counsel investigations are supposed to be held in secret meaning that Mueller’s running a leaking ship or The Washington Post has just posted another story that will be shown to be false in coming days. So where did the Post get its information?

Five people briefed on the interview requests, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, said that Daniel Coats, the current director of national intelligence, Mike Rogers, head of the National Security Agency, and Rogers’s recently departed deputy, Richard Ledgett, agreed to be interviewed by Mueller’s investigators as early as this week.

Five people?! How many people are getting briefed on this supposedly secret investigation?

Yesterday, Mueller did meet with the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Intelligence Committee to discuss how best to keep their two investigations from stepping on each other. That’s only two officials leaving Mueller’s team as the likeliest source of the leak – if it happened at all.

Does The Washington Post Have Any Credibility?

The Post has a well-documented history of printing false stories based on anonymous – or perhaps made up – sources.

They printed two anonymously-sourced stories on May 10th that have both been discredited.

The first claimed that Deputy A.G. Rod Rosenstein threatened to resign over the Comey firing decision. The very next day, Rod Rosenstein talked to reporters in-person and told them that the reporting was not accurate.

“If you are referring to the Russia investigation, I do. I believe we have the adequate resources to do it and I know that we have resourced that investigation adequately,” Comey told Senators in a hearing.

The second story cited two more anonymous sources when it reported that then FBI Director James Comey requested additional resources for the Trump-Russia collusion investigation. Comey, under oath, testified before Congress that the central facts in that story were completely false. Comey’s spokeswoman Sarah Isgur also told reporters that the report was “totally false” and that such a request “did not happen.”

The Post could have asked two sources on-the-record and debunked their own story, but that would have ruined their click-bait narrative.

There have been so many more discredited stories based on anonymous sources. All of them driving the narrative that Trump is in trouble. Today’s LTP looks exactly like every single one of those.
