The effete dandies in Washington and the media got a collective case of the vapors on Thursday when reports came out about a bipartisan immigration meeting President Trump held in the Oval Office. It was there where Trump, irritated by the prospect of spending so much American treasure on protecting immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador, and African counties, reportedly asked a simple question: “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?”

Cue shock. Cue outrage. Cue a thousand editorials calling Trump a racist bigot. Oh the humanity!

Trump went on to tell lawmakers that the U.S. should spend more of its immigration resources bringing in people from countries like Norway and the Pacific Rim. “Why do we need more Haitians?” he asked. “Take them out.”

According to the New York Times, even politicians from the GOP side of the aisle were simply shocked – SHOCKED – by the president’s remarks:

Lawmakers were taken aback by the comments, according to people familiar with their reactions. Sens. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) and Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.) had proposed cutting the visa lottery program by 50 percent and then prioritizing countries already in the system, a White House official said.

Rep. Mia Love (R-Utah), whose family is from Haiti, said in a statement that Trump’s remarks were “unkind, divisive, elitist, and fly in the face of our nation’s values. This behavior is unacceptable from the leader of our nation.”

Look, nothing against Ms. Love and Mr. Graham, but get a life. The American people, who voted for Trump in overwhelming numbers, are not shocked and outraged by these comments and the Republicans who are taking a stand right now are just falling right into one of the left’s usual traps. Stop pretending like this is the worst thing you’ve ever heard someone say and get real. If these countries are so fantastic, then why are their protected immigrants so desperate to avoid going back there, huh? Explain that, and then we’ll listen to your oh-so-sincere arguments about why Trump is a terrible person for using this kind of language.

Frankly, we’d rather have a leader who speaks in this sort of plain, get-to-the-point language than someone who carefully shrouds what he’s thinking in sixteen layers of politically correct nonsense. Take away the exact verbiage Trump used (if he even used it) and you have nothing more than a common-sense sentiment shared by tens of millions of Americans – even if they won’t admit it in public. Let’s grow up, collectively grow a pair, and stop fainting on our couches every time Trump fails to be “presidential.”
