Experiment – After This You Will Think Twice Before Putting your Cell Phone Near your Head

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Five girls in the 9th grade in a school in Denmark have performed a very interesting experiment, which drew huge attention of people worldwide. The images that are placed on the Internet caused a stormy reaction of many researchers, biologists and experts on radiation from England, the Netherlands and Sweden.

The experiment consisted in the fact that they watched the development of seed of identical plants in two rooms with identical position to the sun, an equal amount of water when they were watered and the same temperature. In one room was placed router for wireless internet that emits the same type of radiation as an ordinary mobile phone, and in another room there was none.

After 12 days, the germinated seeds next to the router, hadn’t grown, and some of them were mutated or completely dead. The plants resulting from the seeds that were in a room without radiation progressed normally and were completely healthy. The young researcher actually wanted to draw attention to how mobile phones, which most of us at keep beside the bed close to the head at night, help with sleep and concentration, but such a thing was impossible to measure in school, so they opted to show on the plants.

Ever since they saw the result of the experiment, they no longer sleep with their phone next to the bed. “It’s scary that radiation has such a negative impact on living creatures, and everyone must pay attention to this. During the night, turn your phone off or put it in another room also, turn your computer off before going to sleep, “- says Leah Nielsen, one of the young scientists.

What to say after all of this? The experiment proved how much radiation is harmful, and you may want to consider carefully whether or not you’ll continue to keep your phone close to you during the night (or day).

It is 2016 the entire planet is saturated in EM and RF unless you live in a damned faraday cage, so exactly what is anyone going to do about it anyway? Ohh yeah nothing, this is a non-story, move on.

It is the current year, and since the entire planet is 80% covered with water are you going to dive in a lake and take a big breath of it?

        You’re argument is just DUMB.

Good article and videos. I’m all the time having to turn off and move my wife’s phone to a dresser across the room because she leaves it on right next to our bed, like a foot away. I tell her all the time to hold her phone a couple of feet away from her head, using speaker if possible… if not possible, wait and make the call from her car or somewhere private. I also turn off the computer router in my house when not in use. People have no idea how much radiation they’re pumping into their bodies at close range. The radiation in the environment can’t be avoided sometimes, unless you live way out in the boonies, but you CAN minimize the damage by taking certain precautions. Same thing with cigarette smoke and other pollutants in the environment…. but you don’t have to smoke cigarettes yourself!

Agreed ninja. I use my phone for an alarm but I put it across the room because it’s too easy for me to wake up really tired to the alarm and just turn it off when it’s on the nightstand by the bed. If it’s across the room it actually forces me to get my lazy arse out of bed to get ready for work. I also turn the power strip off that my router is plugged into before bed. Same with the television. TVs draw a fair deal of juice when they are still plugged in. I flip the power strip button that the microwave plugs into also when it’s not in use. If only I could get the kidlets to do the same.

Okay, now explain why here in the neighborhood every single household has a WIFI router but everywhere you look are plants? Even the plants close to my router are growing. Why do I need to trim my garden?

If you do a little searching you’ll find the truth. Which is that WIFI aren’t in a range of radiowaves that are harmful. It’s as simple as this.

Don’t let these BIN poster tools scare you. They know nothing. They research NOTHING!

Anyone duplicate the phony experiment?

Ya! Some scientists at the FDA – it was debunked. They said to do as the industry says and shut-up.

      http://www.pepijnvanerp.nl/2013/05/danish-school-experiment-with-wifi-routers-and-garden-cress-good-example-of-bad-science/ takes this down:

“The WiFi and control group were not just different because of the presence of the routers. On the pictures in the report it can be seen that also the laptops in the WiFi group were placed quite near to the plates. It’s very likely that this had an effect on airflow and temperature around the plates and that could have an effect on germination, which has nothing to do with the presence of EM-fields. Not properly controlled.
It was obvious what the WiFi group was and what control group. Not blinded.
From communication with the science teacher of the girls Tjomlid learned that their had been two experiments. The first one had the routers only sending out the SSID. A second experiment in which the laptops had been ‘pinging’ each other constantly did not show the dramatic difference in germination. Only the first experiment was used in the report (not completely clear, because the teacher gave contradicting information on this). Publication bias: not reporting negative results.
This graph is a far better presentation of what they found, but not as nice to show as the photographs of the cress
This graph is a far better presentation of what they found, but not as ‘sexy’ as the photographs of the cress

The reports on blogs illustrated the difference in germination by photographs of plates with cress, one showing a full grown, not radiated, ‘healty’ one and a plate which almost doesn’t show any sprouted seed at all, a radiated, ‘sick’ plate. If you look at the actual reported results, they do not look that shocking: on average the control group had 332 sprouted seeds versus 252 in the WiFi group. Misleading representation of the result in the press.
(not mentioned by Tjomlid). The plates in a group were not separated in space, so we cannot regard the results of individual plates as independent observations. In fact, you could argue this is an N=2 experiment. Faulty statistical analysis.
The girls stopped the experiment on day 13. Not because that was a predefined moment, but because on that day the control group had reached the maximum height. The problem is that due to a difference in temperature of just a few degrees, it can already take a couple of days for the cress to grow to the same height. If there was indeed a difference in temperature due to the placement of the laptops, it would be likely that the WiFi group could have germinated and grown similar to the control group if it was allowed to grow on for a couple of days. They were just looking for the result they had in their mind beforehand. Biased towards a particular result.
So how did these young girls get biased so badly? Well, they were only fed by literature which points to studies which have shown negative effects stemming from researcher who are discredited by main stream scientists. And for a possible (dangerous) working mechanism of EM-fields, they fully rely on a single report written by Thomas Grønborg, who at his tum relies on Olle Johansson (see further). Cherry picking.”

Photo at the top of this BIN article is also not of the experiment, which used tiny cress seeds on kitchen paper.
