Denouncing Terrorism Protects Allah

9/11 was a discerning moment for the American people as they were shocked into facing the reality that Islamic Fundamentalists were really out to kill them. Americans became extremely suspicious of anyone resembling a Muslim as the US declared a “war on terrorism”. Rightfully so, as all 19 hijackers were Muslims supported by Al-Queda, The media brought to the American people the news of the “joyous celebration in the streets of the Middle East while there was only Muslim silence in condemnation of this attack. The social and political outrage was directed towards the American-Muslim community. It created daily scrutiny, personal attacks and general difficulties for Muslims.  It was at this point that many Islamic organizations spoke up against acts of terrorism which has been summed up by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and endorsed by over 120 US Muslim groups, leaders and institutions. The 2004 Madrid train bombings that killed 191 people and wounded over 1,800 were officially attributed to an Al-Queda inspired Basque terrorist cell. Other than the election-driven nationwide demonstrations and protests that followed immediately after these attacks, the Muslim community was silent. It should be noted that Spain has a growing Islamic community with the influence of ‘sharia laws” being imposed.

After the London Underground bombings in July 2005 that killed 52 people and injured around 700, there was a strong increase in personal attacks against Muslims in the UK. There was a response to this from Shia groups who organized rallies in central London against terrorism and extremism. However, their turnouts weren’t very large and were essentially about the declining situation in the Iraq War and the destruction of holy shrines by terrorists. In addition, there was very little mention of the London bombings. In fact, the global Islamic community has been relatively silent for years about this.

It was Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan, the November 2009 Fort Hood shooter, who has recently brought attention to the vulnerability that the US has from Islamic attacks. Add to this the failed attempts of the ‘Christmas Bomber’ and the ‘Time Square Bomber” and we are now hearing from some Islamic leaders and groups denouncing terrorism. In early March Dr. Tahir ul-Qadri, the leader of Minhaj-ul Quran, a global Muslim group that claims hundreds of thousands of followers, issued a global fatwa “calling for a complete condemnation of all forms of terrorism and bans suicide bombing without any excuses, any pretexts, or exceptions.” (Link: www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/02/muslim-leader-issues-anti_n_482233.html). It does appear that a pattern is emerging that begs the question: Are we to believe these denouncements? Should we judge them as “tricks” to evoke American sympathy? This may be so as Shia theology contains the concept of “Taqiyya and Kitmann” allowing believers to hide their faith when under threat or persecution. Members of Islam have used this strategy in order to conceal their intention and gain political influence. The essence of this concept is summed up in Al-Tabari’s famous tafsir (interpretation of the Koran): “If you (Muslims) are under their (infidels’) authority, fearing for yourselves, behave loyally to them with your tongue, while harboring inner animosity for them.” This is the Islamic principle of lying for the sake of Allah, which is sanctioned in the Koran (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taqiyya).

With this in mind, Americans have the right to be skeptical. These Islamic leaders and organizations may not condone violence because they see a different way to advance Islamic theology. Perhaps American Muslims realize that they are already spreading Islam in the US thru the natural expansion of their population and thru immigration. It is common knowledge that America’s birth rate is diminishing while Muslim’s is rapidly multiplying. In fact, our Democracy has created an environment where the American birth rate generally reflects affordability. Muslims are immigrating and giving birth by the hundreds of thousands yearly, forming large communities and starting to demand Sharia laws within their boundaries. Therefore, within a few decades, our country may also be faced with a majority of its people who follow the Koran. It may become evident that in order to prevent our nation from being forced into Sharia Law, we will need to put quotas on immigration.

Having said this, these denouncements of terrorism still deserve to be given support. But, they should not stop Americans from being alert and cautious. Our Department of Homeland Security, TSA, FBI, police and any other security force we have, must continue to be vigilant and scrutinize “without any excuses, any pretexts, or exceptions”. And our citizens must take a lesson from Lance Orton, one of the two vendors in Times Square who alerted NYC police to the smoking SUV, when he said: “If you see something, say something.”
