Biochemical Warfare and Genetic Extinction

First off, I’d like to direct your attention to this video:

A colleague of mine had shown this to me about a week ago, highly disturbing stuff on here and seems almost science fiction, right? Well reported from news source theguardian several hours ago “US military agency invests $100m in genetic extinction technologies”. Some quotes from the article;

“Technology could be used to wipe out malaria carrying mosquitos or other pests but UN experts say fears over possible military uses and unintended consequences strengthen case for a ban”

“A US military agency is investing $100m in genetic extinction technologies that could wipe out malarial mosquitoes, invasive rodents or other species, emails released under freedom of information rules show.”

“The use of genetic extinction technologies in bioweapons is the stuff of nightmares, but known research is focused entirely on pest control and eradication.”

‘Known research’. So what do these two things have in common? Maybe the fact that the military could manipulate this to wipe out an entire race. Not as specific as the above video, but slightly more terrifying as you can’t see this coming, really. Scientists are already worried that this could do irreversible damage to the ecosystems and environments, what is stopping the corrupt military from using this on humans? They get their own scientists to make a few modifications, and it’s extinction level genetic warfare.

Jim Thomas, a co-director of the ETC group had this to day:
““The dual use nature of altering and eradicating entire populations is as much a threat to peace and food security as it is a threat to ecosystems. Militarisation of gene drive funding may even contravene the Enmod convention against hostile uses of environmental modification technologies.”

There are some who have come out and said that the biochemical warfare aspect of this is all “just fantasy” and this could never be used for military purposes, but why not? We’ve seen the horrors that war and lust for power brings. The government and military have hidden things for years so whose to say they won’t turn this into their next superweapon? Well for one last article quote;
“Interest in the technology among US army bureaus has shot up since a secret report by the elite Jason group of military scientists last year “received considerable attention among various agencies of the US government”, according to an email by Gerald Joyce, who co-chaired a Jason study group in June.”
