Alleged Boston Bomber Charged With Using Weapon Of Mass Destruction

The US Department of Justice has formally charged the alleged Boston Pressure Cooker Bomber. Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev has been charged  with using a “weapon of mass destruction” against people and property. President Barack Obama has rejected demands by  congressional Republicans thatTsarnaev be tried as an enemy combatant  before a military tribunal.

The Justice Department said Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, was charged in a criminal complaint unsealed Monday in U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. It said he is “specifically charged with one count of using and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction (namely, an improvised explosive device or IED) against persons and property within the United States resulting in death, and one count of malicious destruction of property by means of an explosive device resulting in death.” The department said in a news released that the bombings resulted in the death of three people and injuries to more than 200 others. Reports say  Tsarnaev is awake and communicating with authorities in writing. He can’t talk, reportedly because he suffedred a self-inflicted throat wound.
