(Before It's News)

Intense eruptions at Mexico’s Colima volcano continue after a sharp increase of activity on September 26, 2016.

On September 30, ash and thick black smoke rose from the volcano and a lava could be seen pouring down its slopes. The event has forced the evacuation of hundreds of people from their homes.

Luis Felipe Puente, head of national emergency services, told Reuters that some 350 villagers living in the shadow of the volcano in the towns of La Yerbabuena and La Becerrera have been evacuated to a nearby shelter.

Since then, intense activity is continually observed.

Earlier this year, Mexico’s interior ministry said the volcano was threatening its first major eruption since 1913.
