Floods affect over 1 million in Balkans, destruction ‘terrifying.’ Bosnia said on Monday that more than a quarter of its 4 million people had been affected by the worst floods to hit the Balkans in living memory, comparing the “terrifying” destruction to that of the country’s 1992-95 war.

Greenland glaciers more susceptible to melt than thought. Greenland’s glaciers are more vulnerable to melting by warm ocean waters than previously thought, a new study of the topography of the bedrock under the ice finds. This could mean that current projections of future sea level rise are too low.

Historic sites face climate threats. The streets around City Dock in Annapolis flooded again Friday, closing the Spa Creek Bridge connecting the Eastport neighborhood with downtown for several hours. It was yet another reminder to Lisa Craig that she’s in a race against time to protect one of Maryland’s oldest communities from the rising waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
