Snow Storm Set To Impact Midwestern States Today through Saturday

The first major snow-storm of the season is set to impact the Midwestern United States today through Saturday.  The system will bring as much as 6-10″ of snow over a large area in a short amount of time.  Read on for details.

Currently, the system is moving through South Dakota and Western Iowa and the snowfall intensity will only increase in the state of Iowa and interests along the Iowa / Minnesota border through the day today.  Wind gusts with it will be 10-20 mph for the most part, but areas in Central Iowa would receive 30 mph wind gusts … a Blizzard Advisory criteria here at National Weather Force.com … due to the 30 mph wind gusts and heavy snowfall.  For the most part, it will be below blizzard warning criteria.  The system will dump as much as 4″ of snow per three hour periods across the Central Iowa forecast zones, including the Des Moines, and Davenport forecast areas.

The band of snow will weaken in intensity as it moves into the IL/WI areas overnight tonight, but it will still bring through Saturday heavy snowfall as far east as Chicago, Illinois.  Snowfall ratio do get high enough to warrant high accumulations of snowfall as far north as Southern Wisconsin through the period.

Michigan will receive the snowfall over the day on Saturday with up to 3-6″ of snowfall in a large area of the state, as will Northern Indiana …
