A black senator? It has not happened for the past 139 years, and if it does, it would only translate to 1000 years of darkness in Mississippi. That’s as per Gov. Phil Bryant’s predictions of how terrible things will be in case Epsy, a black, takes the senator seat.

In a January 2 tweet, Gov. Phil Bryant voiced his support for reelecting Hyde-Smith, a white senator, to whom democrat Mike Espy lost Mississippi’s special U.S. Senate runoff election in 2018. according to him, they’d rather have Hyde-Smith back instead of Epsy who would only bring darkness to Mississippi. According to Gov. Phil Bryant, Hyde-Smith is the hope of Mississippi, and he’s ready to work with her.

“I intend to work for @cindyhydesmith as if the fate of America depended on her single election. If Mike Espy and the liberal Democrats gain the Senate, we will take that first step into 1000 years of darkness,” said Gov. Phil Bryant in a January 2 tweet.

But is Hyde-Smith worthy for reelection? Well, if you don’t mind his open racism, you’d vote him a second time. Everyone is aware of the racial oppression in Mississippi, and people like Hyde-Smith are at the forefront, locking out blacks from every good opportunity.

Who doesn’t remember Hyde-Smith’s statement that she would be front row at a public lynching? Therefore, Bryant’s 1000 years of darkness remark in support of Hyde-Smith is a reflection of racism that has taken deep roots in Mississippi.

However, Espy isn’t shaken by the critics driven by racism. He believes he’s going to win big-time. When he announced he’d be running again in 2020, Espy told the associated press that he aims at building a diverse coalition of voters to ensure this time round its a win.

“We’re going after everybody — white, black, Democrat, persuadable Republican, persuadable moderates and those in the middle,” Espy told the AP in November 2019. “But I know where they are now. I’m not flying blind.”

According to Espy, Hyde-Smith is doing Mississippi more harm than good. Therefore, it’s time to embrace change and vote-in someone who has better visions for Mississippi like him.

“ Hyde-Smith is hurting Mississippi — our progress and our reputation — and we simply must replace her,” said Espy during his first campaign against Hyde-Smith.
