by Kinetic Justice Amun
At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 30, 2021, I woke up in the intensive care unit at UAB (University of Alabama at Birmingham) Hospital. I had stitches in the front and back of my head, my left eye was swollen shut, I had three fractured ribs and multiple bruises across my back. Even in my drug induced fog, I knew my body was battered.
Slowly, things began to come back to me. I remembered the helicopter, I remembered a violent seizure ripping through my body, I remembered the bleach, I remembered my face dragging across the floor, I remembered lying in a pool of blood, I remembered the baton blows, I remembered Milton and Griffin’s words … I remembered.
The perfect cover
At approximately 2:15 a.m. on the morning of Jan. 30, 2021, Correctional Officer Geofrey Griffin was in the process of locking down C Dorm, when myself and several other prisoners surrounded him and locked him inside C Dorm. CO Griffin felt threatened, so he made a distress call for additional officers.
Several officers entered C Dorm, where an ambush-styled altercation broke out. One officer was stabbed in the head and another on the side of his neck. The remaining officers discharged a large amount of chemical agents into the air and used the necessary force to quell the disturbance and restore order. The entire incident took place in the C Dorm Day Space area.
This is how the Donaldson officers planned to justify the vicious beating of Ephan Moore and the assumed death of Kinetic. End of story.
The monkey wrench
I was beat unconscious by three baton-wielding officers and left face down in a pool of blood, then locked in my cell, assumed dead. Five minutes later, after getting their story together, an officer opened my cell, grabbed me by my ankles, dragged me, face down, out of the cell, across the length of the dorm, out of the dorm, then dropped me into the CD corridor. The officer then ordered an inmate hall runner to get a mop bucket and clean the blood out of my cell.
In such a rush to clean out the cell, the mop bucket tipped over at my feet, causing the bleach and disinfectant to wash over my face and into my mouth and nose. I began coughing from the chemicals. This shocked the officer and Hall Runner, as they thought I was dead. Realizing that they now had to take me to the infirmary, they forgot to clean up my cell.
This miscue would become the unravelling of their “perfect cover” story, as it gave one of the brothers an opportunity to video the cell before officers could clean it up. This created a dilemma for the officers. If the disturbance and use of force took place in the C Dorm Day Space area, then how did all the blood get in my cell?
For the last 27 years, the state of Alabama has declared me a number, a commodity, a non-human – duly convicted of a crime, therefore a slave.
Not wanting to be associated with the attempted murder and blatant attempt to cover it up, Warden Kenneth Peters called in the FBI to assist LESD in investigating the incident.
What’s really going on
From eyewitness accounts, pictures of suffered injuries and the video of the crime scene, the facts are crystal clear:
I was standing in the door frame of my cell when three officers with batons in hand approached my cell. I was unarmed and posed no threat to either officer when officers attempted to murder me by beating me unconscious with batons. Officers filed a false report and wrote several trumped up disciplinaries to serve as justification for the use of force.
If any average tax-paying citizen had committed such an act of violence, the state of Alabama would not have hesitated to file charges and plastered it across the news. But, I think I know the sad truth of the matter.
For the last 27 years, the state of Alabama has declared me a number, a commodity, a non-human – duly convicted of a crime, therefore a slave. Which is exactly why it has taken over two months for the FBI and Alabama LESD to decide whether the three officers who attempted to murder me should be reprimanded and held accountable.
Meanwhile, I sit in solitary confinement for being assaulted. All of this makes we wonder: “Will a human being always be a human being, or does being convicted of a crime strip one of their humanity? Are some above the law? Or is it that some are designated as less by the law?”
Hold the officers accountable and release Kinetic from solitary confinement NOW!
