US Soldiers Deployed In Penokee Hills Of Wisconsin To Guard Future World's Largest Taconite Mine??

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

I have a source who has posted this photo and description on their Facebook account showing a US soldier gaurding land that will be turned into a ‘waste pit’.  Observe..

Penokee Hills – Northern Wisconsin, USA;

It does appear Gtac is willing to spill blood to achieve their goal of turning 22 miles of pristine wilderness into the world’s largest open pit taconite mine in their pursuit of the all mighty dollar!

Rumors that these soldiers are possibly from the 9th infantry division from Washington State. Possibly authorized by governor Walker.

G-Tac has already lobbied and bought our politicians here in Wisconsin to completely remove our environment protection regulations so it is to little surprise that our fascist state is sending in paramilitary units to protect their investments after all,

“Wisconsin is open for business”

The company Gogebic Taconite (GTAC) purchased the mineral rights for a vast area in northwestern Wisconsin– 21,000 acres along 22 miles of the beautiful Penokee Range in Ashland and Iron Counties. In 2011, GTAC proposed to build what could become the largest open-pit iron-ore mine in the world (4 1/2 miles long, 1.5 miles wide and up 1,000 feet deep) to extract taconite, a type of low-grade iron ore.

Why are US soldiers gaurding this?  Why are US soldiers deployed on US Soil to gaurd corporate interests?  You know what that is right? Fascism, and I have been smelling it for awhile.  To me, neither the patch or the gear looks regulation US Army.  Plus, a state Gov. cannot order units under federal control to do anything.  However, everything else about him looks US Army.  If not US Army, than its some Merc company which could be scarier as they are not harnessed by the same leash as the US Army.  Mercs owe their loyalty to the allmighty dollar, the same loyalty the comapny G-Tac has apparently.  Hopefully someone will do some more investigating.  -Mort

Is that a suppressor at the end of that gun?

      • Wotansson

        yes it is…and laser sighting

      • Wotansson

My first thoughts…DEA and local drug enforcement…they all like to play dress-up when in the woods hunting down weed growers or possible meth labs. My guess is that he is standing inside a marked garden/growing area. Growers know that bunnies will hop in to eat their crop up real fast so they use forms of perimeter fence…and keeping down the population of super stoned bunnies in search of munchies. Even deer will eat the weed plants. Right after this was taken they probably met back at the bar for a cold brew, and to cheer how they spent $200,000 to find and prevent $20,000 in possible future weed sales.

If any company resorts to these tactics. It’s time to round up the “posse” and remove them….

We have no proof of their identity or point of origin. It is my opinion that these armed guards are a direct result of a false flag operation that occurred on Thursday, June 13. Here is a video of it, which is presented by Brian Fraley, communications director of the MacIver Institute, a front for the right-wing Bradley Foundation. Bradley is a big backer of GOPTP Governor Scott Walker. http://www.rightwisconsin.com/perspectives/211531461.html

Whatever the source of this picture, that’s a NATO patch under the US flag. Google images for ‘nato patch’ to find many. Here’s one example:

Damn right we need to protect the Taconite….. Where else will we get our Tacos from if someone steals it?

      • truthzilla

So that’s where they get those things! USA USA USA USA…

    • shutterbug

Not Military. Maybe private contractor. Or even militia. I know the area and very well could be militia. Maybe even DNR or DEA look’n for growers. But def not military. The fact he doesnt seem to care his pic is being taken is a little fishy to me also. Still, interesting

That, my friends, is a lizard alien disguised as a human. One of their crafts crashed, and he is guarding it. It ran out of helium, which is what they run on. Since they ran out of helium, they are gonna try to run it on taconite, which is just about as good. Then, it’s off to Dulce, New Mexico, and their 28 story underground lab where they are performing generic experiments on greys and humans alike. AxisofEvil already knows this, but was too chicken to tell you. He was at the same meeting I was at, so he knows.

    • sysbuster

Look at that beer belly and are those gym shoes hes wearing? This guy isnt guarding anything important because what I see is barley a deterrent or challenge for that matter.. Psychological affects aside.

      • cforce

You are correct sir….. beer belly.

        • apache5

you might also note, he would not be wearing those kind of gloves and look at his sun glasses with the reflection on them he also would not be using that type, he is NOT a pro ! who knows what he is, but that is a NATO emblem on his arm !

        • AxisOfEvil

He’s probably one of those overweight fatigue wearing d*uchebag militia soldier wannabe.

We have lots around the border here, pretending to “patrol”……. if only they get lost and cross the border to our side….they won’t make it back home.

      • jtg555

Dumbass alot of guys that are green berets have beer bellies just bc they have a guy doesn’t mean they can’t be a bad ass. Also those gloves are Oakley tactical gloves and the boots are non issue military boot maybe underarmor or Nike and those glasses deff Oakley. Although pic might not be correct for posting he is legit soldier

    • retiredpatriot

WE DON’T HAVE A 9TH INFANTRY DIV. HERE AT jblm JOINT BASE LEWIS MCcHORD SO SOMEONE GOT THEIR FEAR PORN WRONG . STATIONED AT jblm RIGHT NOW.

    • bill o\'rights

Not so sure that is military.

      Looks like militia in ATACS.

    • drgb

They shoulda never given out the location of this mother lode of taconite. Now every cheesehead in Wisconsin will show up with their pick axe, shovel, and pick-up truck to get a load on the sly. (Wait ’til they discover taconite’s only 30% iron and about #5 on the hardness list, not too far behind diamond.)

    • BigSky

Nice try, guys, but you failed bigtime. That is not a U.S. military soldier. There’s just too many things wrong: Rather than wearing combat boots, he seems to be wearing some brand of athletic shoes, the U.S. flag on his tight upper arm (and some unrecognizable non-military patch beneath it), knee pads on his trousers, non-military gloves. Also why would he have his face covered with a black mask and his sunglasses in his boonie hat he’s wearing? I’m not sure what to make of his open shirt (olive undershirt under camo shirt?). It’s also clearly a posed shot, probably some participant at a local weekend paint-gun group activity. The man is also a bit chubby for the military.

      • lRolf

He is ex-military or ex-law enforcement. There are more shots of his teammates on other sites. He in in the woods of Northern Wisconsin in the summertime so his face is probably covered against mosquitoes, blackflies and deer ticks. He is carrying a machine gun not a paintball gun. It is happening: “Armed Takeover of Penokee Hills by Walker’s Paid Thugs!”

    • Wayno55

I live within 20 miles of the site . THIS IS NOT PRISTINE WILDERNESS ! That area was logged out many years ago and more trees where planted . Birch ,poplar , the kind that are used for making paper . The old growth is long gone . The land is privately owned and is being leased by GTAC . I have been to GTAC meetings and it looks like they have a good plan .
Now the Great Native Tribe of Ojibwa who is fighting for water purity are they themselves the largest polluters in this part of the State ! They are dumping raw sewage into the Bad River . They have been cited by the EPA ! I spoke with my Rep . and there are going to be hearings the end of this month in D.C. to ask the EPA why it has not enforced these regs. on the Odanah Tribe. The bottom line is we need jobs up here . This area has been logged and mined for a hundred years the water is fine ,the wildlife is great ! (as long as you’re not near where the Bad R. flows into Superior .)

      • lRolf

You conveniently forget that the land GTEC is on belonged to them and still would if the US Government hadn’t cheated them out of it. If the mine goes in their tribal home will be destroyed but you need jobs in Northern Wisconsin even if you have to pollute the land and water and create a 21-mile open strip mine to get them. If you are such an expert on mines I would think you would know that you are setting a beautiful area up to be a toxic waste dump. I know you don’t care if you ruin the environment for everyone else but wouldn’t it be easier if people like you move to Milwaukee and get a job there? You don’t want to move right? The Ojibwe people don’t want to move either and they have been there a lot longer than you.

This is lame. Your “source” revealed, why the need to hide your source when he’s publicly published online? This is my first comment here, but is this normal here?

I see. I really like *some* of the stories here, but to see this one listed as first, after I had already read the article on bigpzone was disappointing. Any recommendations on finding the best contributors here?

    • greenghost

Interesting. I wouldn’t think low grade iron ore would be that valuable.

      • Wayno55

Low Grade ? There is so much it’s laying on the ground to pick up ! Also it is magnetic . That means the ore can be taken out of the mined material by magnets as it goes down conveyors .

        • drgb

Taconite is vastly different than the 60-63% natural ore that was once mined in Minnesota and Michigan decades ago. That ore was loose and could be loaded on the ore boats and dumped directly into the blast furnaces w/o processing. Taconite occurs as layers of extremely hard rock, harder than granite (7.2 to 9.0 in hardness on a scale which diamond rates 10). It’s blasted in the open pit mining process to break it down so it can be scooped by enormous shovels and loaded onto “dump trucks” capable of carrying 250 tons. From there it goes to a “crusher”, which breaks the taconite down to pieces roughly 30″ and smaller. A conveyor belt takes it to a processing plant (which may be a mile or more away) where it is pulverized into powder. Magnetic separators remove the iron, which is mixed with bentonite clay powder and water to form taconite pellets. After hardening in a hearth, they’re ready to be shipped to steel mills. The final pellets are 70% iron and work extremely well in slingshots. My first real summer job in 1966 was building a new plant….cost then was $500M. Today a company would have to invest $1.5 to $2.5B. before they’d crank out their first pellet. Quite an operation!

Have we not yet learned that the US military is not for the citizens of US!

      http://www.theusmarinesrape.com/FaceBook.html

      • retiredpatriot

ichabodcrane Your delusions and comment make me sick. I am also sure it makes others see you as a person they would love to practice with first. Do you not get tired of preaching BS to people who ignore the comment. Just because one or two did something wrong doesn’t make the rest of us bad. It also illiterates you never served either. Get a life and stop posting that retched link.

    • muckrakor

It is now news – heard about it on public radio. They are private security, donning (military-like) camo outfits and packing semi-automatic weapons.

      http://news.wpr.org/post/gtac-hires-armed-security-protect-drill-sites

      • lRolf

You don’t think this is news? How would you like to see mercenaries with machine guns outside your backdoor for the next several years? This is a show of force by Scott Walker and his GTEC financiers. Walker is one of the most corrupt politicians this country has ever seen. These goons are there to intimidate the local people that oppose the mine. This is the kind of tactic you would see in a dictatorship–oh right Wisconsin is one now!

    • Anonymous

I guess the chinese need iron ore.

    • lRolf

I had some friends that were peacefully protesting the mine last weekend. They saw these mercenaries and tried to ask what they were doing there. They did not answer. I would have thought it was Afghanistan except there are trees. GTEC’s heavy-handed management style is nothing less than fascist. This mine is the world’s largest environmental disaster in the making. It will pollute Lake Superior, one of the world’s most largest and most important freshwater lakes. The only way they got mining rights to the land is by buying off Scott Walker. He actually changed existing laws to make it work for them. Please get the story to the big newspapers. Wisconsin needs a wake up call.

    • jmeyer35f

This is not a state or local soldier, it is private security.

      http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/mining-company-hires-guards-armed-with-assault-rifles-wearing-camouflage-b9951188z1-214812771.html

Dont judge so quickly, if you knew anything about todays military uniform you would know that it isnt us.

    • truthzilla

I understand someone’s concern about things like this but, it is all part of our heritage, This is a good thing…It will create jobs, lots of surrounding businesses will see a boost in sales, housing, equipment, etc etc etc…

Progress must continue, relax and go with the flow… 21K acres in the fine state of Wisconsin is nothing..32.81 sq miles, subtracted from 80, 600 sq mi… If they have tall plantings around the road area you won’t even know it’s there…

If you were a miner you would think this is great… The wildlife will adapt, sucks for them but, Kismet is a bitch…

    • randydutton

Do your research before posting false information. It’s not a Washington State Guardsman. He’s from an Arizona security company.

The private security armed guards were in response to criminal activity by a protester.

Here’s an even better link to what’s happening.

as mentioned by a few before, they are contractors known as Bullet proof, describing itself as a “no compromise security force.”

Aaah, another test to see how far they can push us off the Constitution. Its clearly stated that the US military cannot OCCUPY AMERICAN SOIL FOR ANY REASON. If a mine needs to be garden , the owners can hire private mercenaries and if its important to the state of Wisconsin that has jurisdiction over all of this, then they can supply the national guard or what is called the organized militia. WE NEED TO CALL OUR CONGRESS AND IMMEDIATELY LODGE A FORMAL COMPLAIN WITH YOUR SENATORS OFFICE AND COMPLAIN ABOUT SOLDIERS OCCUPYING AMERICAN SOIL. VERY ILLEGAL Not only where the constitution is concerned but also the posse comitatus s concerned. They push the limits to the point where we wake up one day and our entire governing document is gone….. GRADUALISM. Don’t let them use it on you or all of us.
