How did George Orwell See the Future when Writing 1984? by Greg Giles
Many today our aware of the term ‘Orwellian’ as a metaphor used to describe the ever increasing global fascist police state. What many may not clearly understand is where the term Orwellian came from and how it came to be. In 1949 George Orwell’s masterpiece 1984 was published, a story of a futuristic nightmare of a world destroyed by perpetual war, government surveillance and public mind control, an oppressed society ruled by a small group of elitists that have banned any individualism and independent thought.
Today we are living George Orwell’s vision of this nightmare. But how is it that Orwell was able to so accurately describe a world 50 years into the future? How did he foresee a future where our rights would be systematically stripped from us, how our local police would be transformed into jack-booted thugs, how technology would be developed that would enable complete surveillance of our every move, even our every thought, and how every facet of our lives would be controlled by ‘big brother’, one of several terms born through the depressing pages of 1984. How did Orwell know all this?
There are those who see Orwell as a modern-age Nostradamus, as technologies depicted in 1984 were not yet invented and the US at that time could hardly be compared to a police state as it is appropriately described today. I myself wondered how Orwell could have possibly known what we would be experiencing. I thought about it at length, and as I could not come up with an answer, I did some research. The answer to this mystery is as equally surprising as it was obvious, leaving me to wonder how I did not see it before.
George Orwell did not possess a crystal ball and he was not a psychic or profit. Orwell knew what awaited the future of mankind because those described as big brother through the pages of 1984 were those of the elitist class of his time who shared their twisted vision of the future with him, a nightmare Orwell found so disturbing he withdrew from these individuals and risked his life to warn all those who would read his words. That’s right folks, George Orwell knew the future because he was told by the conspirators what they were planning to do. So ends the mystery, but not the nightmare envisioned in 1984.
If you are interested in seeing our future that is swiftly becoming a reality, read George Orwell’s 1984, or if you prefer, visit Youtube and watch one of the two film versions of this masterpiece.

George Orwell’s commander and close confidant in the Spanish Civil War was an agent for both MI5 and the Vichy regime that controlled France on behalf of
the Nazis, new research has revealed.
Georges Kopp – who biographers of the great socialist writer previously believed had an affair with Orwell’s first wife, Eileen – had fought in Spain as a
company commander of the POUM, the Marxist militia that attracted Orwell in 1936.

Lasky steered Encounter to represented the point of view of the anti-Communist, anti-Totalitarian Left. (Social-democrat)/
Orwell was introduced to the Fabian Society by his French teacher and lifelong friend Aldous Huxley (1). However, he later became disenchanted with the
Fabian Society and it is now thought his book 1984 (a title chosen to mark the 100th anniversary of the Fabians) was really a satirical polemic describing the
kind of world he believed the Fabians would achieve. The Fabian Society acquired and sealed the archives of Orwell when his second wife Sonia died some
years ago. According to representatives of the publishing company Harper Collins, the Fabians will be in control of the “1984″ copyright and name through
the year 2025, and they have done their best to block unauthorized investigative research about Orwell’s anti-socialist works. Even rights to Orwell’s estate
fell under control of the Fabian Society. [Camelot]

Alan: It was and he even said in his writings that even though Britain would start it off, someone would take over in the future. We find that happening in the
early 1900′s when Kipling came over and he read his poem to the Senate of the U.S., the one about “The White Man’s Burden” and what they would have to
do, and that was the handing over the flag as he wrote in his poem: To you, we hand the torch over to you to take over.

Background of George Orwell / Eric Arthur Blair:
Der Monat – came from CIA.
In 1952 Fredric Warburg became a member of the committee of the Society for Cultural Freedom (S.C.F.), an organisation established to ‘promote Western
culture and defend it against the communist culture of the East’.[4] The S.C.F. were to produce a cultural magazine, Encounter, which was later to receive
sustained criticism when it emerged that much of the money used to produce the magazine came directly from the CIA.
Thomas W. Braden, who headed the CIA’s International Organizations Division’s operations between 1951 to 1954, said that the money for the Encounter
magazine (and Der Monat – another publication) “came from CIA, and few outside the CIA knew about it. We had placed one agent in a Europe-based
organization of intellectuals called the “Congress for Cultural Freedom.” (today Association for Cultural Freedom).
Melvin J. Lasky became editor of The New Leader and, later, of the German-language Der Monat (“The Month”). Lasky had founded the latter during the
Berlin Blockade in 1948 as an anti-Communist but Leftist, socially progressive journal which became one of the leading Germanophone highbrow socio-
political journals for decades, incorporating essays and articles from many Western European and North-American, as well as dissident East Bloc
intellectual figureheads, such as George Orwell, Hannah Arendt, Franz Borkenau, Thomas Mann, Arthur Koestler, Raymond Aron, Ignazio Silone, Heinrich
Böll, Hans Sahl, Max Frisch, T. S. Eliot, Saul Bellow, Milovan Djilas, Richard Löwenthal, Peter de Mendelssohn, Hilde Spiel, Hermann Kesten.
In the Anglosphere, Lasky was best known for his role as Editor-in-Chief of Encounter. He succeeded Irving Kristol, the original editor and founder, in 1958
and helped turn the young magazine into one of the most highly regarded periodicals in Europe. Lasky steered Encounter to represented the point of view of the anti-Communist, anti-Totalitarian Left.
