Leonard Kleinrock (born June 13, 1934) is an American engineer and computer scientist. A computer science professor at UCLA’s Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, he made several important contributions to the field of computer networking, in particular to the theoretical side of computer networking. He also played an important role in the development of the ARPANET, the precursor to the Internet, at UCLA.[3]

On March 12, 1989,[4] Tim Berners-Lee, a British computer scientist and former CERN employee,[5] wrote a proposal for what would eventually become the World Wide Web

Leonard Kleinrock and Tim Berners-Lee were a hired employees of Mr. Bengt Val Thulin the sole owner and sole creator of the “Whitman Trust”.

Mr. Thulin said “Now imagine that being done all around the world like a spiders web. If we can do it we will call it the World Wide Web”.

Leonard Kleinrock said ” it would be like a spiders web of wires everywhere”

Mr. Thulin said “Exactly, a World Wide Web of wires connecting computers everywhere, allowing people to share information, communicate by type and eventually by VIdeo and Audio Communication. Like my VIACOM that I own. That is what VIACOM stands for you know. VIdeo and Audio Communication.”

Leonard Kleinrock said “that is right you did say you owned VIACOM. But I have been calling connection of computers the it the intranet”.

Mr. Thulin said “But that is as you said within but one building. I am talking world wide. So it would be an internet at the point that I am suggesting as that it would be international”

Leonard Kleinrock said “you are right. Then Internet and World Wide Web it is.”

Mr. Thulin said “Good then you will work for me and help me develop it Mr. Kleinrock?”

Leonard Kleinrock said “Of course I will how could I turn down such an offer? But how will we wire all those computers together?”

Mr. Thulin said “I am thinking we use an existing wire network for now and upgrade later on once the World Wide Web and Internet catch on and it will too.”

Leonard Kleinrock said “What existing network of wires is there that is expansive that covers the whole world?”

Mr Thulin said “It comes to my mind the telephone network as that my father worked for Michigan Bell as an Electrical Engineer and Toll Test Foreman”

Leonard Kleinrock said “That would work, why didn’t I think of that?”

Mr. Thulin had already written the first “Windows” program on a Commodore 64 with a 500MB hard drive and had a guy by the name of Bill Gates take a look at the first working “Windows” program.

Mr. Thulin then hired Bill Gates to re-wright his “Windows program so it would be IBM compatible.
