Swiss President: Islamic State Cell Tip-Off In Geneva

Swiss federal authorities put Geneva on a high security alert this week after getting a tip from foreign authorities about a suspected ISIS cell in the region, President Simonetta Sommaruga said Friday.

“The Swiss government received information from a foreign authority regarding a potential IS (ISIS) cell in the Geneva area. Federal authorities examined this information and shared it with the local police,” Sommaruga told a news conference.

“There is currently no indication that there was a concrete attack planned.”

Authorities have raised the alert level to a “precise threat” from a “vague threat” as of Thursday afternoon after the tip on Wednesday, according to a Swiss official who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.

A photo of men believed to be the four suspects appeared in a Swiss newspaper, Le Matin. They pose in a crouched position and hold up an index finger, a gesture associated with ISIS.

This is the latest scare in Europe in the weeks that have followed the Paris attacks, and with three of those attackers still on the run, and an influx of returning jihadis using the refugee crisis as cover, this surely will not be the last.
