Let’s cut through the BS and state a couple of facts regarding the Colin Kapernick Nike ad.

On Labor Day, September 3^rd when the markets were closed, Colin Kaepernick posted this to his twitter account. It was Nike’s new Just Do It ad featuring Kaepernick’s face and the slogan, “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything.” Probably not a good marketing idea to put a commitment of self-destruction that could equally be applied to a suicide bomber. But I guess that’s why people don’t go to Nike for philosophical advice and insights, unless you’re a complete idiot with no moral compass. But people liked it. It got over 858k likes, over 349k retweets and over 44k comments.

But apparently the people with the 401ks holding Nike as part of their investment portfolio had a different opinion than those who frequent twitter and respond positively to the shallow slogans of athletic wear companies who are willing to take a risk on socialist promoting jobless athletes like Kaepernick.

And why do I say that? Because when the Markets opened the next day, Nike lost almost 4% or $3.75 billion in market capitalization after announcing free agent NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick as the new face of its “Just Do It” ad campaign. Oh…it’s the 30th anniversary of the brand’s iconic slogan. Happy anniversary share holders. The Colin Kaepernicks should be available by christmas…if you can afford one by then.

Market capitalization BTW is the market value of a publicly traded company’s outstanding shares.
