With this September 18, 2020 press release, the U.S. Supreme announced the death of Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg at age 87. She was appointed to the high court by President Clinton in 1993 and was obviously hoping scandal-plagued Democrat Hillary Clinton would appoint her successor after the 2016 presidential election. However, the people of the United States, had the last word, (2-minute video) overwhelmingly electing Donald Trump and thwarting Ginsburg’s plans.
As a result, the former ACLU General Counsel and zealous abortion advocate hung on, working through serious illnesses and surgeries, hoping to outlast President Trump, who she clearly did not want to replace her with a conservative justice.
In 2018 Ginsburg stated her intention to stay on the court for five more years, hoping to surpass what she believed to be President Trump’s time in office. She pointed to the example of Justice John Paul Stevens, who retired at 90.
“I am sure she wants to stay on the court until the end of the Trump presidency if she can,” said Erwin Chemerinsky, the dean of the law school at the University of California, Berkeley, and a liberal who called on Ginsburg to retire in 2014, when Barack Obama was president and Democrats controlled the Senate.
Ginsburg’s glib explanation for falling asleep during Barack Obama’s 2015 State of the Union speech was that she’d had too much to drink before attending and “was not 100% sober.” (video admission.) The political double standard was evidenced by newscasters who found that comment to be humorous. Does anyone believe their reaction would have been the same if those words were uttered by a 90-year-old Republican justice? CNN slickly dubbed the outrageous episode “Power napping.”
Juxtaposed against the vicious, deceitful personal assault then-nominee and now Justice Brett Kavanaugh and his family endured, far leftist Ginsburg had a cakewalk. The August 3, 1993 roll call confirmation vote on her nomination was 96-3, with one not voting. Sen. John McCain, who claimed to be pro-life, voted in concert with his Arizona seat-mate, Democrat Dennis DeConcini,
As we fast forward to the announcement of her death, Justice Ginsburg big gamble didn‘t pay off. President Trump sits in the White House. He will have the opportunity to appoint a third justice to the Supreme Court.
Although death often facilitates a magical transformation, Seeing Red AZ deals in realities and brings our readers this instructive February 2012 post and accompanying video, titled, “US Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg: Unfit to serve,” in which she disparages the U.S. Constitution.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg was not an icon. She was an iconoclast.
