Fox News adopts George Orwell’s Newspeak

Reporters offensively alter our language

The English language is uniquely descriptive, which explains why words matter. We addressed this issue in 2015, when Pres. Barack Obama and his administration chose to mischaracterize facts, refusing to use the words “radical Islam” or “Islamic terrorism.”

Previously in 2013, we likened word manipulation to George Orwell’s book titled, “1984,” and the mandated language of Newspeak in “Winston Smith: Alive and well at Associated Press,” which remains popular with our readers.

This topic is relevant due to the transformation many of us have noticed at the once reliably conservative Fox News cable network. Fox’ unverified early election night projection of Arizona supporting Biden was the initial breach. The forward thinking word “progressive” has become the ubiquitous disguise for leftist, whose adherents should more accurately be described as “regressive.”  The network, now run by 89-year-old Rupert Murdock’s radically leftist son Lachlan, is losing its once loyal audience, who long ago realized the true bent of Chris Wallace, with whom Fox is newly enamored. The recrafting of language is also a channel turner.

Newsmax TV, available on on cable and satellite is benefiting as the formerly reliable Fox audience tunes in for Tucker Carlson and maybe Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham, then moves on, boosting Newsmax’ audience.

Fox refers to Joe Biden as “Vice President” or “President Elect” while President Donald Trump is unceremoniously identified as “Trump.” These jarring incidents were not stand-alones, but occurred repeatedly on Tuesday evening — even as votes are still being counted. In Georgia, Joe Biden leads President Trump by less than 0.5%. Though the idea of fraud permeating the election is promptly dismissed, over 2,600 uncounted ballots were discovered in one county — Floyd County — during the election audit.
