Kareem careens out of reality: Driven by GOP hatred

Abdul-Jabbar calls for more censorship of conservatives who he refers to as practicing “flat-earther, anti-vaxxer cult-think”

Chances are good that you cheered sports legend Lou Alcindor, Jr., during his 20 seasons in the NBA playing for the Milwaukee Bucks or the Los Angeles Lakers. In 1968 he boycotted the U.S. Men’s Olympic team — which went on to easily win the gold medal — saying he was protesting the unequal treatment of blacks in the U.S., though he and other black stars were glorified. He converted from Catholicism to Islam and changed his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, calling the abandonment of his father’s name “a manifestation of my African history, culture and beliefs.” 

He remained a beloved sports superstar. His race and religion were irrelevant. It’s doubtful his fans ever gave a thought to his politics. 

Now age 73, Abdul-Jabbar is further asserting his activism. And guess who he has in his sights? Conservative Republicans! In an embarrassingly incoherent essay he has called on tech companies to do more to censor celebrities, political figures and others to keep them from spreading what he calls “misinformation.” He opines:

“It would be tempting to dismiss this self-mutilation as merely the triggering of overly sensitive “cancel culture.” But some of this public braying does immediate harm to the foundation of society. Giuliani’s attacks on the integrity of the 2020 elections, without any substantive evidence, has undermined the democratic process. A post-election poll indicated that 77 percent of Republicans think Joe Biden won because of fraud. Since no credible proof has ever been shown, this opinion can only be held because they practice flat-earther, anti-vaxxer cult-think: Someone in authority told me what I want to hear, so it must be true. Unfortunately, they include celebrities as “authorities.””

His lengthy tirade is titled, “The Hubris of Self-Destructing Stars,” was printed in The Hollywood Reporter.

This past June, Abdul-Jabbar’s 28-year-old son, Adam, was arrested and booked on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon after stabbing his 60-year-old neighbor Ray Winsor multiple times during a dispute over trash cans, according to sheriff’s officials. Winsor, who has known his attacker since he was a child, suffered numerous injuries including to the back of the head and neck causing a fractured skull and a brain bleed. Adam Abdul-Jabbar posted $25,000 bail and was released from custody. The New York Post reports if found guilty he faces 10 years in prison.

Had Adam not been the son of a celebrity, he’d have rightfully spent more time cooling his heels.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar should have spent more time teaching his dagger-carrying son the Ten Commandments. Oops. Wrong religion.
