AZ newspaper bows at diversity altar, rejects diversity of thought

Not only does the leftist lockstep, white self-flagellation madness never stop, but it has intensified. Under the headline declaring, “We’re urgently building a more diverse staff,” the Arizona Republic newspaper’s executive editor, Greg Burton pledges his commitment to ratios, ethnicity, skin pigmentation and whether we sit or stand in the bathroom — traits which are beyond our control — rather than quality. He crows:

“More than three-quarters of new hires over the past year have been journalists of color, and eight of 13 are women.

Our goal is to match a community that is 44% people of color. We’re not there yet, but we’re making progress, and doing so while hiring the most skilled and promising journalists on the job market.

In 2016, journalists of color made up 20% of The Republic’s staff. Next month, they’ll be 37% of the staff, up from 34% just nine months ago. Among managers, that number is 39%, up from 28% last August.”

At the Arizona Republic, hiring based on qualifications is a passé concept. In order to authentically report the news, diversity takes precedent. This insulting concept invalidates professionals in all walks of life. Having a degree that relates to your line of work is no longer paramount. To be considered a valuable employee it’s imperative you represent a specific ethnicity and have the proper amount of melanin in your skin pigment.

For all of Greg Burton’s slobbering over himself for the newspapers new diversity and inclusion hires, as the executive editor he egocentrically misuses the reflexive pronoun “myself” multiple times.

His grammatical blunders aside, the missing component from his commitment to diversity is the long overdue retirement submission of Greg Burton. He noticeably doesn’t fit the parameters he has set for the staff he oversees. He’s too white, middle-aged and he stands to urinate. These genetic defects over which he has no control still render him unacceptable.

When he was hired in 2018, Burton complemented his new workplace calling it, “a vibrant, healthy and successful newsroom,” but he quickly set about reconfiguring it. Subscriptions have fallen dramatically.
