Sweden or Switzerland? where each citizen has weapon? I don’t know about Sweden, but I can answer for sure about Switzerland, from its closeness to where I reside, as well as from distant relatives. In the Helvetic Confederation, there is a mandatory military service for all able-bodied male citizens. From the age of 18 until 60! It consists of a couple of years, then of a yearly month long training and one week-end each month. In a way it is similar to the National Guards. Each citizen is keeping his war gear and weapon at home. Due to the small superficies of Switzerland, it is not uncommon to have farmers having an extra barn for the storage of heavy military equipment (canons for example).

It is exact that there are very few crimes in Switzerland. The jails are also very few. It is known also in neighboring countries that the Swiss courts seem to not be as used as their neighbors’ when dealing with serious criminal cases, and when a criminal from neighboring country get caught in Switzerland, this criminal seem to prefer been judged and condemned in Switzerland and purge the jail time in Switzerland.
That confirms that well armed and well trained citizens bring peace, and put crimes to a derisory level.
