I have been talking to old shipmates about North Africa and the people we associated with when we were there.  I spent 6 years living in North Africa.  Three of those 6 years were in a transportation squadron, and 10 years later, I spent 3 MORE years trying to teach electonics and English to many Moroccan Military radar technicians.  They learned English quite well, but they didn’t put much effort into electronics.  All of them seemed to learn English so as to get into the United States if possible.

I did manage to get to Lebenon, Tunisia, and Libya during my first 3 years there.  All countries looked the same with extreme poverty.  My last 3 years there were more of the same, i.e., extreme poverty and a rapidly expanding population.  Health care had expanded to the masses, especially antibiotics, which contributed to population explosion.

Does anyone believe that the Egyptians can take care of and also feed themselves?  There are 80-million people in Egypt.  It looks as though the size of Egypt is large enough to support all of those people.  Not so.  Most of Egypt is desert.  The productive areas are along the Nile River.  That area is about the same as the area from about the Arkansas North State Line down to New Orleans along the Mississippi river.  This land area covers about 18 or so miles on each side of the Mississippi River.  Folks, that is about an area less than Arkansas supporting 80 million Hill-Billies!  It ain’t possible!  This condition is especially so since the fertility of the Egyptian delta is slowly deteriotating.

The problem is the Aswan High Dam.  The dam has blocked the annual floods of the delta by the Nile River, which brings rich sediment for new crops when the river recedes.  Oh well!  The new leaders must stabilize the country.  If things are very, very peaceful, then about 15% to 20% of the population will be able to be fed on tourism dollars.  Also, there must be a GOOD AMOUNT OF MONEY BEING SENT BACK TO EGYPT FROM EGYPTIAN CITIZENS WHO LIVE and WORK IN EUROPE and the United States.

Any disruption in tourism and money from overseas will cause a lot of hunger.  A lot of those hungry people will be on boats or migrating North.  The Muslim Brotherhood is a huge boil on Egypts butt!  If the Muslim Brotherhood takes control of Egypt, the population of Egypt will be reduced considerably when they execute the Copts, what few Jews who are left, and a lot of Shia Muslims, i.e., if these minority groups cannot flee the country fast enough.  That’s my take on the current situation in Egypt.
