Police appeal for information on knives used in London Bridge attack

A MONTH after a Queensland couple triggered panic by taking their severely disabled son from hospital, the boy remains at the centre of a bitter argument over how he should be treated.

Cini Walker and Marc Steven snatched their four-year-old son from Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital at the end of April, after he was admitted against their will.

A distressing video emerged from Ms Walker’s Facebook page which showed her begging for a break. Through tears, she asked “My son is … Do I even own him anymore? Who’s going to help our family? When is this nightmare going to stop?”

Chase suffers from severe seizures and spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, which leaves him wheelchair-bound, according to a Facebook page, Chasing Hope, established to support the family.

Ms Walker and Mr Steven stopped vaccinating their son after the age of two, believing the injections were causing him seizures.

The parents advocate the use of medicinal marijuana and an organic diet, which they say has vastly improved his condition and reduced his epileptic seizures.

However, Chase has continually been admitted to hospital, with doctors often citing malnutrition.

Ms Walker claims the hospital food and western medicine has an adverse impact on her son’s health.

“They’re going to kill my kid with food and they don’t care,” Ms Walker said in April, after the couple was found in Newcastle by police.

An amber alert was issued by Queensland Police on April 28, the day after the couple took their son from Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in Brisbane.

He was found soon after and taken to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.

While Chase’s parents went willingly to the hospital with their son, their fight to have him treated naturally, rather than with western medicine, continues.

Though they filmed themselves walking out of John Hunter Hospital with Chase nearly a week after they sparked the two-state search, he has returned to the hospital in the intervening weeks and their battle continues.

On May 5, Ms Walker posted on her Facebook page that her son was “healthy and happy, living life, alert and awake, thanks to my medicinal cannabis and my healthy organic diet.”

Four days later, Ms Walker rejected the tag “anti-vaxxer”, saying she had only chosen to stop vaccinating her son because that what she and Mr Steven had decided was best for his health.

“MY FAMILY ARE NOT anti vaxxer WE ARE PRO CHOICE,” she wrote.

“I am pro choice to save my son’s life and not to put toxins in his body that are going to CAUSE him to SEIZURE and DIE!

“Do your own research before you listen like a sheeple!

“VACCINATIONS ARE UNAVOIDABLY UNSAFE!

“I do not care what people think of me as a person but when you start attacking innocent little KIDS is when you will see us as parents defend these little innocent souls.”

Both Ms Walker and Mr Steven have received widespread public support for their campaign to treat their son the way they wish to.

Chase has since returned to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital.

This week, Sunday Night will air an interview with Ms Walker and her family, profiling the battle between traditional and alternative medicine Chase is caught in the middle of.
