While obesity is common in the United States, there is still enormous pressure for people, especially women, to be thin.

With losing weight being the end goal for so many people, it’s no surprise that people will go to extremes to see a lower number on the scale. You may have heard of several crazy diets that people have done to get there, and the baby food diet is no exception.

The Baby Food Diet Helps Curb Hunger and Shrink Your Stomach

The baby food diet is not recommended for the long-term, though some people might stay on it for several weeks, or months. The diet, instead, is meant to help curb hunger cravings and keep you from snacking.

The idea is that you get your nutrition all in a few jars of baby food without all of the calories you’d get from a big meal or snack. If you get hungry, you can just reach for some baby food, which typically has way fewer calories than any other snack you might eat.

After a while of replacing one or two meals with baby food, your stomach will start to shrink and thus you won’t be as hungry as you were before you started the diet. Shrinking your stomach is a common side effect when it comes to dieting, yet it is the goal with the baby food diet.

Minimal Food Preparation

Weight loss for many can mean doing food prep for several hours on a specific day and then store food in the fridge to eat at a later date. Food prep for the baby food diet is minimal.

You don’t need to do much in the way of food planning and prepping unless you are doing purees for your own food. In that, case, this diet might take a considerable amount of time to prepare. It is, however, vastly more convenient if you can simply pick up jarred baby food yourself at a local grocery store.

The baby food diet is not intended to replace every single meal of your day but does ask that you eat baby food in place of one or two meals per day. This means you only have one meal out of the day that you are responsible for.

For the baby food diet, this works to your advantage. The more adverse you are to the food you’re supposed to be eating, the more you will look at food as fuel instead of pleasure. It will also mean you are less likely to overeat or binge because let’s be honest, who wants to binge on several cans of baby food?

It Doesn’t Take A Lot of Exercise

Some people choose this diet because they absolutely cannot see themselves going to a gym. This diet requires minimal to no exercise, as it is all about calorie restriction.

Most diet regimens ask that you also work out in addition to eating well. This helps you tone your body and “get rid of” excess calories. If you exercise, you don’t need to restrict what you’re eating as much as you would if you were not opting for exercise.

Because this diet is all about calorie restriction and cutting back, exercise is not recommended. In fact, if you do exercise on it, especially if you’re only eating small amounts, you could faint or cause injury to your body.

As such, the baby food diet doesn’t require you to hit the gym at all. You’ll burn more than enough calories just by doing your daily chores and activities.

It Kick-Starts Your Weight Loss

The baby food diet isn’t intended to become a permanent solution or way of eating. It can, however, become permanent if you suffer from a disease or disability that makes it impossible to eat solid foods.

To get the best results, it is recommended that you eat healthy baby food to maintain your vitamins and minerals while losing weight.

The baby food challenge is intended to help you initially lose weight, and can help you lose a significant amount immediately. This means you are supposed to switch to solid food after a while, as being on this diet too long can ultimately be detrimental to your health in the long-term.
