10 of the Craziest, Weirdest Stories from Veterinarians You Won’t Believe

Every business can share a few of their own weird stories. But for some reason, pets seem to bring out the extra crazy in their owners.

You’d think while in the presence of a veterinarian the owner’s behavior shouldn’t be the problem, but it often is. Whether it happened at a veterinary clinic or a pet hospital, the stories are all hilariously odd and wacky.

1. The Veterinarian and the Owner that Went “Fowl”

One nice thing about working at a pet hospital is that you can tell one species from another. A woman brought in her duck complaining the duck wouldn’t swim.

With one glance the veterinary team was able to tell the lady that her duck would never swim because it was actually a chicken.

2. A 24-Hour Vet Discovers Poor Eating Habits in a Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers are known for having good appetites. When an owner brought in his dog to the vet complaining of a distended belly and poor appetite, the veterinary clinic needed to do surgery.

They found six and a half socks and three large dishtowels.

3. Surprised by Nipples

It seems many owners are unaware that cats and dogs have nipples like we humans do. Except, they have six to eight nipples.

And, like humans, it doesn’t matter if the dog or cat is male or female, they all have nipples. And no, a vet won’t surgically remove them.

4. Cremating a Cat’s Tail

While it’s not uncommon to cremate the remains of a beloved pet, it’s usually reserved for the entire pet, not just a body part.

That didn’t stop one owner from requesting a private cremation be performed after having his cat’s tail amputated. And the veterinarian was happy to comply.

5. Mothballs and Urine

An owner visited a pet hospital claiming her cat was repeatedly getting sick. The owner believed it was because the cat was urinating on mothballs.

This owner thought that the combination of cat urine and mothballs would create meth and therefore, her cat was high.

6. Drugs and the Veterinary Clinic

Even drugs dispensed to vet clinics are controlled. That doesn’t stop owners from trying everything they can to get their hands on them.

One owner went so far as to ask for a copy of the veterinarian’s license to buy flea medicine from a distributor. But she did promise she wouldn’t use it to buy drugs so we guess it was okay.

7. The Real Cat Burglar

Some cats are attracted to shiny things. They also love to wander and discover new things.

It only becomes a problem when the cat starts stealing neighbors belongings.

8. Veterinary Clinic or Whorehouse

An owner asked prior to his cat being neutered if the cat could spend time inside a cage with a female cat. The 24-hour vet staff immediately informed him they “no longer offered that service”.

9. Confirmed Dog Lovers Deal with Cat Adoption

A family of confirmed dog lovers ended up being forced to add a new kitten to their family. Their dog found a kitten, brought it home with him and began caring for the kitten.

Since the dog became frantic whenever the kitten was taken from her, the family had to adopt the cat.

10. Weird Lumps on Female Dog

A lady went to an emergency vet appointment concerned about weird lumps on her female dog.

Turns out those “lumps” just confirmed the dog was a male.
