Plastics Tube and Pots and Pans: The Weirdest Cooking Methods For Your Food

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

How do you cook your food? No, this isn’t a theoretical question where we judge you on your answer.

You probably use a stove, oven, or microwave, right? Maybe a deep fryer for your holiday turkey or a toaster oven for your waffles.

But how crazy do you get with your cooking methods?

Do you bake cookies on your dashboard while you’re at work? What about cooking fish on your car’s engine? Ugh — just think about the smell!

There are a lot of foods out there that have all sorts of weird health benefits. But, it turns out there are some weird ways to cook your food too.

Check out seven weird cooking methods that actually work!

1. Iron Chef

Sure, we all love the show Iron Chef and they use some fascinating cooking methods — at least to the novice chef. We’ve got one method that may have you re-evaluating the size of your ironing board.

Ironing your food.

People use their iron — yes, the one you use on your work shirts and slacks — to cook food. Specifically, grilled cheese sandwiches and steaks.

This suggestion comes out of necessity. Say you’re staying at a hostel in Paris and don’t have a kitchen but you want a gooey grilled cheese.

Just slap your uncooked sandwich between two paper towels and voila! Bon Appetit.

You can use the same method for any pressed sandwich. You can also cook your steak that way, too.

Put your steak on some aluminum foil, season it up, add some oil and wrap it. Set your iron down on top of it for five minutes, then flip it and do it to the other side. This will give you a nice medium-rare slab of meat.

2. Bagged Bacon

Camping with kids isn’t always easy and it isn’t always fun. Usually, because living off the land is pretty tough for the tech-savvy kids of today.

You can feed them a balanced breakfast just like at home. Minus, the pans, stove, and toaster.

Line the bottom of a paper bag with bacon. Crack a couple eggs on top. Seal up the bag and hold it over the fire for about seven minutes.

If you don’t trust this one while you’re out in the woods, you could bring along a toaster oven with an air fryer. Of course, you’ll need a power source or if you’re handy, you can rig it up to your car.

Read a helpful review of one of the best toaster ovens with air fryer, then consider it for your next camping trip.

Is it cheating? Sort of, but we won’t tell anyone.

3. Flat Iron Bacon

Another way to cook bacon involves a hair straightener or flat iron. Have you ever noticed that a slice of bacon fits along the heating mechanism perfectly?

You haven’t? Oh, well, take our word for it — it does.

You can cook bacon by placing a strip between the elements and clamping down. If you want more than one slice — and who doesn’t? — you’ll need to do one at a time, which can take a minute.

You also won’t be able to use the straightener for its intended purpose ever again. But it’s for the love of bacon!

4. Meals on Wheels

Do you have a long road trip ahead? Do you have a feeling you’ll have a hankering for some fish before you reach your destination?

Have no fear! You can cook food on your car’s engine while you’re driving down the road.

Season your fish and drizzle some oil on it. Wrap it in aluminum foil and place it on your car’s engine. Forty minutes later, you’ve got a tasty meal of baked fish.

You’ll have to be mindful not to block the engine’s air intake or you could have more problems than a stinky fish odor in your car. You also shouldn’t pull on any wires to situate the fish.

5. See Cookie Paradise by the Dashboard Light

You’re human, so come 5 pm when it’s time to clock out and go home, you’re likely pretty hungry. Why wait until you get home to enjoy a nice warm meal? Especially when you’ve had your own easy bake oven all along.

You can bake cookies on your dashboard while you’re at work all day. In the summer, park your car in direct sunlight. If the temperature is between 80 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the inside of your car can reach 172 degrees.

It may take a lot longer than your traditional oven, but you can bake cookies at that temperature. You should also check on them every once in a while.

And to think, some people don’t even allow drinks in their car!

6. Winner, Winner Chicken Beer Butt Dinner

This one’s been around for a while, but it’s still pretty weird none the less. If you prefer a frosty beverage on a hot day, this is right up your alley. Or, chicken’s butt.

Even if you don’t drink alcohol, you can appreciate this one too.

Start by gutting then seasoning a whole chicken. Rub some oil on it as well. Then stick a full can of beer up its butt (or cavity, if you’re a grown-up).

The can acts as a stand for the chicken so it won’t fall over. Put it on your grill or in your oven for an hour. You’ll know it’s cooked when the juices from the chicken are clear.

Even those who don’t drink beer swear that this method makes the chicken very tender and juicy.

7. Homemade Solar Pizza Oven

We’ll warn you, you need a lot of supplies for this one:

  • Pencil, marker, or pen
  • Ruler
  • Utility knife
  • Aluminum foil
  • Glue
  • Plastic wrap
  • Packing tape
  • One sheet of black paper
  • One straw or the pencil you’re using as your writing utensil
  • Pizza box with a slice or two of pizza

You also need sunlight and some warm weather — at least 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Cut a large square out of the top of the pizza box and apply plastic wrap to make a “window.” Line the bottom and sides of the box with aluminum foil. Glue or tape the piece of black paper on the bottom of the box so you see it through the “window.”

Place the pizza inside. Take a straw or pencil and prop open the lid about 90 degrees. Put the whole homemade solar pizza oven outside — if you haven’t already.

Now, wait.

Cook the pizza until it gets the desired temperature. Then, enjoy!
