Whether you are a novice or a pro, hiking is a sport that many nature lovers enjoy. Not only does it get you outside but it is great for both your mental and physical health. Hiking can also take you on many adventures.

Throughout the world, there are beautiful hiking trails. Getting to explore them is a dream for many people. Imagine traveling from state to state, or country to country, to experience the awesome wonders of nature.

Since hiking is therapeutic there are many reasons why people engage in the sport, from its psychological and physical benefits to the social aspect. Hiking is a non-competitive sport which takes the stress off of participating with friends.

1. Inca Trail

The Inca Trail is in Peru. The trails are 26 miles and take four days to cover. The beautiful hiking trails give you plenty to explore including ruins, jungles, and scenic mountains.

In addition to the trails, Peru is a stunning place to visit for its own natural beauty. The trails may not be for the beginning hiker because it has plenty of steep inclines and declines.

2. Sierra High Route

Want to experience beautiful hiking trails in your own backyard? Travel to sunny California and give it a go on the almost 200-mile trek of the Sierra High Route. 

It will take you almost two weeks to complete. If you have a couple of free weeks during the summer you want to add this one to your bucket list.

The trails have an altitude of 9,000 feet and higher. Of course the higher you go the better the views and photo ops.   

3. Beautiful Hiking Trails in the US

Other trails to consider within the US are the Pacific Crest Trails which encompass California, Oregon, and Washington. With almost 2700 miles of hiking trails, you can plan your own routes.

The Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim is another famous hiking trail in the US. It covers 44 miles of weird and scenic routes. Plan about five days to complete this course.

4. Routeburn Track

If you have a free week between November and April, plan to spend your vacation in the stunning country of New Zealand. There you will find one of the best hikes in the world.

New Zealand is home of the Sierra High Route. The 20-mile trail is on the South Island of Fiordland National Park and it takes two to four days to complete the entire trail.

You will experience amazing views that are simply breathtaking.

5. Ski Apache

No matter your skill level, Ski Apache has a trail for you. These popular hiking trails offer fun for the entire family. 6. Appalachian Trail

Do you have about six months to dedicate to conquering a trail in the eastern region of the United States? Or maybe you live in the area and can challenge yourself to do the full 2180 miles over a year?

It is an awesome adventure for those that love hiking. the Appalachian Trails run from Maine down to Georgia and takes hikers through 14 states. The path is the longest continuous trail in the entire world. 

7. Bay of Fires

Not only is Bay of Fires an exotic trail, but it is also beautiful in its own weird way. This 16-mile hiking trail is in Tasmania, Australia and is open from early fall through the end of spring.

The enchanting appeal of Bay of Fires is that it runs alongside some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Blood red lichen that covers a lot of woodlands enhances the scenery, making for a unique backdrop.

Plan to spend about four days to complete the trail and bring your best camera.

8. Chilkoot Trail

Do you want to conquer the Alaskan frontier? The Chilkoot Trail can get you close to it. The trails, which include the Scales, Stone Crib, and the Golden Stairs, also encompass Canada and the Yukon Territory here in the US.

With 33 miles of unique and rustic scenery, you can make it a summer adventure. What these trails have that other trails don’t is its connection to the historic California Gold Rush. Along the Alaskan portion of the trail, you can tour the Klondike Gold Rush, also known as the Last Grand Adventure.

To travel the entire trail it will take about five days. Add on a few more days to take in everything else.

9. Trek to Petra

Located in Jordan, the Trek to Petra offers beautiful hiking trails that are awe-inspiring. The biggest gem is the historic tombs and temples built into the mountains.

The popular hiking trails span about 50 miles and require a week and a half to cover. Trails are available from fall through mid-spring.

While you are there consider touring some of the other historic attractions the Middle East has to offer, such as the Dead Sea and Wadi Rum.

10. Mountains of the Moon

Mountains of the Moon is a 38-mile hiking trail located in the Ruwenzori Range, Uganda. The trail is accessible during the months of December through March. Plan to spend a week to cover this beautiful hiking trail.

The peaks of the mountains ascend to 16,000 feet and by some estimates are the highest peaks on the continent of Africa.

The majestic parts of the trails will bring you face to face with elephants.
