Weird Hacks to Keeping Your Home Crazy Clean!

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Keeping your house clean can at times seem like fighting an uphill battle. But outside of the kids turning things upside down or you just never seem to have enough time to get the house exactly how you want it, often the products we use can range in effectiveness and cost.

But did you know that a lot of the things in your home right now can be used to get your home sparkling in no time!

Yes, by applying some of these weird hacks you can stop yourself from making that extra trip to the supermarket for supplies and keep that extra cash for yourself.

We will focus on 3 things that have particularly surprising domestic superpowers. Let’s find out what they are!

Vinegar: The Secret Sauce of Weird Hacks

The high acidic content and doesn’t only mean that it can help give a nice kick to your cooking, it is amazing as a disinfectant and household cleaner. So how many weird hacks can it help you with?

Unblocking Your Drain

Often getting to grips with a plunger is all you need to get rid of an unwelcome blocked drain. But if that doesn’t work before you hire a professional, try a special formula of vinegar, baking soda.

First, pour boiling water down the drain in question. Next, 1 cup of baking powder followed by a liquid solution made of 1 part vinegar and 1 part water. Cover and leave for 10 minutes. Next repeat pouring boiling water down the drain.

All of this magic should leave you with a clear drain. That being said at times your DIY tricks won’t work so don’t hesitate to look for professional drain cleaning services in that case.

Get Your Glasses Sparkling

At times no matter what you do, getting things truly clean after a dishwasher cycle seems to be elusive. Often the culprit is not you or your dishwasher, but the hard water in your area, leaving a white chalky residue on your glassware.

Getting off this limescale can be a challenge but our secret sauce can lend a hand. The acetic acid is wonderful at breaking down these difficult minerals.

Fill half a bowl with white vinegar and leave it securely on the top tray of the dishwasher. After filling your dishwasher, turn it on. The fact it is at the top means that it will be able to be evenly distributed onto all the dishes.

Mayonnaise Isn’t Only for Your Burgers

Due to its unique makeup, mayonnaise has all the elements to help in fighting off dirt, dust, and much more. Let’s see the extent of its powers

Use Mayo on Your Fake Plants

The build-up of dust on plants that you bought because you didn’t want the drama of having to maintain them can end up giving you more work than it’s worth. Step in mayonnaise.

By placing a small amount of it onto a cloth and wiping your plant leaves with it, you will find that not only are you left with an amazing shine, but the oils in the mayo are also great at breaking down any buildup of dirt on them so they are truly clean.

We would resist trying this on real plants as there is no guarantee that your plant will react to it well, however, some swear by this weird hack for both their fake and real plants.

Get Rid of Your Sticker Marks

It’s enough to drive you crazy. You have bought a new vase, glass, or some other ornament and once it’s home you put it in place, then realize you have left the sticker on. Obviously, it will easily come off with your fingernails, right?

As you already know, very often what really happens is either some of the paper being left on or an unpleasant dirty mark outline that you can’t seem to remove remains.

Have no fear mayonnaise is here! If you cover the area with mayo and leave it for 20 minutes or so you will be amazed at the ease that it comes off, and we mean off.  Again the oils are at work, helping to break down the adhesive and for that, we salute you.

Remove Those Paint Stains Driving You Crazy

Sometimes there are parts of your home that even in a deep clean you can skip over and specks of dried paint spattered around are one of those. The standard reaction is to get something sharp to scrape them off, but this runs the risk of damaging the surface, be it a light switch or floorboard.

Mayo is great at countering this, again due to the oil content. As oil attracts oil it can break down the paint in a non-aggressive way, allowing you to simply wipe away the stain and not damaging your surface in the process.

Baking Soda Can Keep Things Fresh!

Our final word can go-to baking soda. This power is found in larders around the world yet its many uses often go unnoticed. We know of at least 2 weird hacks that will surprise you.

Use Baking Soda to Deodorize

By sprinkling baking soda onto a surface, it absorbs the stinky smell and allows for your air to be refreshed according to your tastes.

Sprinkle it onto your carpets, mattresses, or pet’s bedding and wait for 30 minutes. For the best results for badly affected areas, mix it with fragrant oils to help the surface take on the new smell.

Lastly, vacuum the powder up that’s all there is to it!

Make Sure Your Little Artist Canvas Isn’t Your Wall

Crayon marks on the wall seem to be a given once your little one knows how to hold one. But no need to fret as baking soda is your friend.

All you need to do for this weird hack is wet a cloth and sprinkle it with baking powder. Scrub away at the mark in question and watch it disappear. You may just want to take a picture beforehand in case you have a child prodigy on your hands!
