Life In The Matrix: New Evidence Supports Simulation Theory (Video)

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Nick Bostrom has become somewhat of a cult celebrity in fringe circles for his authorship of the Simulation Theory. This theory supposes that because of the overwhelming likelihood of technological singularities occurring in the universe, it is quite likely that advanced civilizations–either us in the future, or aliens in a distant galaxy–have created or will create simulations. Since the number of these simulations would number in the billions, Bostrom submits that it’s actually quite likely we are living in some sort of a computer simulation.

The actual theory is more elegant than our description and is better understood reading Bostom’s original paper, which supplies the underpinning mathematical equations. Since its publication, the Simulation Theory has become a familiar muse for science fiction audiences, explored in films like The Matrix, The Thirteenth Floor, Dark City, and a smattering of anime films.

For most people, it’s a titillating but ultimately incomprehensible concept, one that is so far out there, so far removed from practical reality it’s hardly even worth thinking about. But if you’re like us and you enjoy pondering the distant, the sublime, the unknown, and the incredible on a daily basis, the Simulation Theory actually offers a verdant foundation for assessing some of the more vexing questions our civilization seeks to answer.

i have a friend who works for TC3 in Dryden, NY as a computer tech and he majors in computer forensics at the same school and he is an adament believer in this theory.  So much so i have told him a dozen times, he should go for brok, organize a religion around it or something.  Not the easiest thing in the world to do but not the hardest either.  Especially when science backs your religion.  maybe you think thats blasphemous to do but the jews thought so of Christ too.  -Mort

      This proves it’s all bollocks

“it is quite likely that advanced civilizations–either us in the future, or aliens in a distant galaxy–have created or will create simulations”

If “WE” are living in a “SIMULATION” then it cannot be “US” from the future creating our “SIMULATIONS”.

We would not be able to think or have “FREE WILL”, we would not die, we would just disappear like you do in a computer game, we would not feel pain nor would we have emotions.
We would not be able to appreciate beauty or create art, nor would we be able to build or create anything.

If we are in a simulation then we are NOT ALIVE.

I don’t know about you but I feel alive.

This is just another way of trying to destroy Christianity by saying it’s only a “SIMULATION”

      • PlowingUrMom

have you ever seen the Marrix? ever performed an experiment? the participants in such a simulation will nor be aware of their involvement in the simulation. how else were the machines going to turn us into batteries? christ has nothing to do with this conversation, and no one is trying to destroy him….he’s already dead, fool.

        > “I don’t know about you but I feel alive.”

Can you trust your feelings? How many people trusted their spouse, felt deep love, only to learn that they had been cheating on them? People can “feel” things but those feelings do not necessarily lend credibility to facts. It can be a *fact* that you *feel* you are loved, but that does not mean you truly are loved.

        > “If “WE” are living in a “SIMULATION” then it cannot be “US” from the future creating our “SIMULATIONS”

We are dealing with possibilities here. The concept of “past” would come into play in terms of us living inside an “ancestor simulation”. Of course we *could* have injected ourselves into the program just like logging into World of Warcraft so this very easily disproves your claim that “it cannot be us”. It *could* be us, whether or not it is remains to be seen but the possibility is there.

        > “This is just another way of trying to destroy Christianity.”
This comment gives reason to question your motives. Some people actually care what is true or not.

        > “This proves it’s all bollocks”.
Not yet, but keep at it and just remember that the burden of proof lies with those making the claim so you do not have to refute anything… unless of course you “feel” there is some threat to your religious beliefs.

Well I will argue this point, We can feel, We can think, We can do wondrous things but in the not to distant future machines will have the same capacity & then what will your take be on life at that point?

Had a teacher years ago who stated that humans would create and utilize computers to substitute the abilities already available through the use of the mind…as the years have passed it has become apparent that this is true.
If there is a computer generated “matrix” which we all partake of could it not be the collective idea manifested? When within this level of perception it becomes very difficult to determine what is “real” or artificially generated. In my understanding iall manifestation is in a sense artificially generated with what we witness in the moment being the collective imagined result in the external aspect. However, the place of reference, the initiated point of relationship is within each individual. Perspective recognition is part of choice.
I choose to withdraw from this idea, supporting the total free expression of creative force imbued within all of us, as beings of the universe….being responsible, acting from a point of integrity produces compassion and connectedness to everyone and everything. Peace

Well I for one am open to theories like this. Science is borne out of question. I’m guessing if this isn’t actually happening now, it could or will. Hey we thought the earth was flat once! Nice little read, my head is mashed at the thought of it, but, if it is true, does anyone have any ‘life matrix’ cheats to stop my wife from snoring hehe….m

      There is no spoon…

According to science 2+2= 3.72 or sumthing.

I guess it’s easy to describe our existence like a sim or sum.

Shaka – NICE response, very thoughtful.

I too have pondered this, and the thing is, it would be very hard for me to make the decision Neo did in “The Matrix.” I mean, like the one guy was telling him about the steak – it looked real, smelled real, tasted like some awesome steak. Considering that reality to us is what our senses tell us it is, would I want to leave this ‘reality’ for some more real reality, esp. if it was much less pleasant? Probably not – I think I am ok here.

And what’s to say that, much like in the movie “Inception,” the reality you escape to isn’t just another simulation – a simulation within a simulation…? It’s all scientifically possible and makes for great thought experiments, but not sure I personally spend any more mental effort on it than that. If we are living in a simulation, it is indistinguishable from what my mind tells me is “real,” and that is close enough for me :)

i never really watched the matrix or read these theories but if you want to see this in action.. go to a high point above the Los Angeles basin and look really look at what is happening in the city. the past couple days there has been a display of sychronized lights and subtle sound but what became undeniably clear is the writing in a holographic or see through light display setup from dusk to now… it’s written in a different language but are letters and some symbols. they also setup a ship like structure on a hill top… which military type, huge strange crafts, and helicopters kept passing over it.. while the strange ones hovered. i don’t think it’s an hostile activity … it may be a message for someone else .. something in the northern skies. maybe the magnetic storm is tricking my mind but i don’t think so.. it’s quite amazing. I can see the holographic lettering floating above the city lights.. you wouldn’t know unless you’re above or visually attuned to the skyline. which i am.., living above the city. anyone else notice this ? no fog tonight clear windy skies but lights are static.
