50,000 Earthquakes in Three Weeks Shook Volcano Awake

It happened in Iceland on, Friday, March 19th, 2021 at 8:45 pm, 20 miles southwest of the capital. Suddenly molten rock burst through the surface from below. Bright lava fountains lit up the night sky. What is happening is that a volcano in the valley is waking up after 800 years of slumber, here is some education.

There are three categories of volcanoes; active, dormant, and extinct. Around 1900 of the volcanoes the world over is considered to be active. This means that they’ve erupted in the recent past and the likelihood of the eruption happening again is quite high. When it comes to dormant volcanoes, they have not erupted for a long time, they however may still do so in the future and you could say that they are sleeping for a little while for now. When it comes to extinct, they have not done anything in a million years.
