Questioning God via Cultural Marxism. Did God Really Say Sexual Sin is Sin?

Theology and Politics from a Conservative, Biblical Perspective

Stan Mitchell, pastor of GracePoint Church claims “divine wind” changed his mind about homosexuality.

We’ve talked about Cultural Marxism and how it has made inroads into the church. For those who haven’t read that and aren’t clear on what Cultural Marxism is or does, suffice it to say that it uses feelings and emotions to determine “truth.” In a society where Cultural Marxism is at work, we see the pressure from some groups of people toward groups holding opposing viewpoints. This is normally done by calling people names. Terms such as “bigot,” “racist,” “sexist,” “hater,” and more are employed in an effort to shame people into dropping what is considered to be outmoded and traditional viewpoints that are no longer seen as valid.

The activists within the gay community as well as those within the black community have used this to their benefit for years. When successfully employed, those who continue to believe – for instance – that same-sex unions are wrong, biblically speaking, are seen to be people filled with hate toward homosexuals. This doesn’t even have to be true, but it becomes true through overuse.

Eventually, those who disagree with same-sex unions will either 1) change their opinions about it and come to accept what is made to seem like the inevitable, or 2) keep their opinions to themselves if they cannot see a way to change. This is how Cultural Marxist tactics are employed in society to make tremendous changes and it has been going on throughout America actively since the 1960s. Prior to that, much of it was done “underground” or in the shadows until a point was reached that allowed it to bubble over onto the surface of society in the 60s. That decade is known as a decade of revolution because of everything that happened.

But that’s how it works in society and we need to remember that Satan controls what occurs in society for the most part. He is still the ruler of this world and the prince of the power of the air. He has not been physically or literally kicked out of his place of prominence yet, though that day is surely coming.

Because of this, Christians need to understand that this huge “melting pot” we call America (or even the entire earth itself) is under the immediate control of the Evil One as God allows. We, as Christians, are part of that melting pot, but rather than put our prayers, thoughts, and energy into changing the face of that melting pot, Jesus gave us the Great Commission, which compels us to understand that most people we rub elbows with every day are on their way to hell. Because of that, “reclaiming” America for God isn’t going to do anything for their souls. Our first and utmost priority should always be reaching others with the life-changing gospel of Jesus, praying that the Lord will open their eyes to see the truth, so that they might actually embrace that truth (salvation) in order that they too, would become new creations in Christ. As people change one by one, so will society. You cannot do it the other way around and the Bible proves that over and over, yet too many Christians persist.

But what concerns me also is the fact that too many churches seem to have given themselves over to the spirit that asks, “Has God really said that?” If we look at how the world has encroached into the visible church, this becomes obvious, but I only wish to deal with one aspect of this questioning God through Cultural Marxism.

I was reading an article today about a mega-church in Tennessee (the church where singer Carrie Underwood and her husband attend; GracePointe Church in Franklin, TN), where lead pastor, Stan Mitchell, has decreed thatGod moved upon him three years ago to begin rethinking his position on inclusion in the congregation. Heretofore, GracePointe had allowed those who identify as homosexuals to attend the services, but drew the line at serving in leadership positions or being “married” by the leadership.

Mitchell starts at 1:34 in the above video.

Now, there is what Mitchell calls “full membership” that allows practicing homosexuals to serve in all capacities. He said it means “being able to serve in leadership and give all of your gifts and to receive all the sacraments; not only communion and baptism, but child dedication and marriage.

Mitchell refers to this as an epiphany for him that opened his eyes to what he believes the Lord wants his church to do and be with respect to the issue of same-sex unions and homosexuality in general. The troubling part of this is that there are many within Christendom who will applaud this because they think it truly represents love. To them, either Christianity is represented by love or by nothing.

However, people usually understand “love” to mean what they want it to mean. It often means accepting others regardless of differences. I agree with that completely and I think Jesus did this. Unfortunately, for people who think like this, that’s where the definition usually stops. We must never judge (actions or words). We must never appear to condemn someone based on their lifestyle. This, they would argue, is not being loving. I beg to differ.

Jesus roundly castigated the Pharisees and other religious leaders of His time because they were simply wrong in their approach, both to God and to others. Jesus (and John the Baptist) became angered at them and referred to them as “white washed sepulchres,” “brood of vipers,” or other things. These are not what we would consider to be loving words.

Jesus also “cleansed the temple,” by knotting a cord into a whip, overturning tables, and chasing the money changers out of the temple area. Again, not such an obvious measure of love, was it? Jesus’ anger was actually an aspect of His love for those people. Jesus knew the truth, relied on it, and responded to situations based on that truth. There was no hint of Cultural Marxism in it, unlike people like Pontius Pilate, whose “what is truth?” question was asked rhetorically and sardonically.

But now Stan Mitchell has determined that God has “spoken” to him, giving him new revelation. It was his “epiphany.”

“We were thrust, I believe, by a divine wind, into a prayerful, painful, invigorating, careful and hopeful conversation regarding sexual orientation and gender identity,” he said, remarking that the “art of conversation … is a holy calling.” “This has been at the least painful, and at times, devastating.

Spoken like a true apostate, I’m sorry to say. You know, before the Bible was even written, God gave one command to both Adam and Eve. It was to avoid eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. One command. One ultimatum, yet that one directive was ignored by Eve and then Adam. How? How could that be done so easily? Cultural Marxism.

Satan – using a garden variety snake – simply focused Eve’s attention on the command and then asked a question. “Did God really say what you think He said?” This caused Eve to start thinking and rethinking the whole thing. Well, gee, the tree sure looked good for food. Smells good too! Maybe we misunderstood God. Eve obviously did when she added that God told them they couldn’t even touch it, which is something God never said.

Eve was tempted to rethink what God said and she went along with it. Satan used Cultural Marxism (long before it was cool) to help Eve change her mind about God’s command. She was deceived into thinking that God actually didn’t mind if she and her husband ate of the tree’s fruit. She took what had been a very clear teaching from God and distorted it to mean something else entirely, something that actually gave her permission to do what God had forbidden.

We’re going to end this here, but I’ll be back with part two of this article to learn if and where Stan Mitchell has gone wrong though Cultural Marxism.
