Shortly some former USN officer will be posting some computer generated chart showing Chinese frieghters turning off and on their transponders with coments such as they were sbotaging undersea cables or looking for their missing equipment they lost whilst illegally tapping such cables whilst in Chinese waters (and such cable go to the Chinese mainland etc) what is really happening is the US abandoned substantial parts of officer training to use computer autopilots/navigation whereas before 2 men were on watch in a crows nest with a competent person on the bridge who understood the right of way rules along with enough bridge crew to ensure everyone kept on their toes and awake on watch. If any warship is caught napping there is no excuse whatsoever especailly since they are designed to sprint at unpublished speeds usually far in excess of any commercial frieghter and certainly can outmanouver one or sink it. You know that pointy thing which was developed over 500 years which costs 1/10 of the prices of the ship, the gun – yes they can be used to shoot up old rust buckets which refuse to heave to.
