Provocations by US-trained militants groups using chemical weapons will serve as a pretext for the United States to attack Syria, and Moscow has seen corresponding preparatory moves, including the formation of naval strike groups, the Russian General Staff has said.
“We note the evidence of preparation for possible attacks. Strike groups of naval carriers with cruise missiles are being formed in the Eastern part of the Mediterranean, in the Persian Gulf and in the Red Sea,” chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the Russian General Staff Col. Gen. Sergey Rudskoy said.
He stressed that it is unclear, who the US wants to support in this case, Jabhat al-Nusra* terrorists or their allies terrorizing Eastern Ghouta.
According to Rudskoy, militants of the al-Nusra Front from Eastern Ghouta have recently intensified the shelling of Damascus, the army is now conducting operations to eliminate the terrorists.
“Jabhat al-Nusra militants along with the White Helmets are preparing a staged chemical attack in the Alghabit and Kalbb Lusa communities situated 25 km (15 miles) to the North-West of Idlib. There are 20 chlorine containers in their possession,” said the Russian General Staff.
The General assured that such an incident would be widely broadcasted in foreign media.

“In the area of the city of At-Tanf, American instructors have prepared several groups of militants to carry out provocations in the south of Syria,” said Rudskoy.
According to Rudskoy, the toxic agents have been delivered to southern Syria under the guise of a humanitarian aid convoy.
Rudskoy noted that the provocations were also aimed at creating a pretext for US strikes against Syrian government.
Earlier, US Envoy to UN Nikky Haley threatened with Washington’s strike against Damascus in case the chemical weapons use in Syria.
Humanitarian Aid in Syria
“Tomorrow, another UN humanitarian convoy, consisting of 25 heavy vehicles will head to Douma in order to assist the city’s population,” said the Russian General Staff.
More than 44,000 people left Damascus’ suburbs of Eastern Ghouta through the humanitarian corridors, Col. Gen. Sergei Rudskoi said.
“Today one can say that the situation in Eastern Ghouta has radically changed. Right now you are witnessing a humanitarian operation of a unique scale. Just today, 26,610 civilians left [Eastern Ghouta] through the humanitarian corridor, while the entire number of people, who’ve left Eastern Ghouta, has reached 44,639,” Rudskoi said.
Rudskoy said that three United Nations humanitarian convoys had made it to Eastern Ghouta over the past week. The people in need have received 445 tons of food, essentials and medicines.

According to the latest reports, the Syrian troops have already liberated more than half of the area, which jihadists have controlled control since 2012. It is known that 10,000 to 12,000 militants are to be somewhere in the area.
The situation in Eastern Ghouta has been complicated over the past weeks, as terrorists continue to shell the area. On February 24, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2401 that urged all conflicting sides to immediately stop all hostilities and adhere to a humanitarian pause across Syria in order to ensure the safe delivery of humanitarian aid, as well as medical evacuation of those injured.
Russia also proposed an initiative of organizing a five-hour daily humanitarian pause to ensure humanitarian supplies and evacuations from the area.

Threatened by Possible US Strike in Syria
After the false flag chemical weapons attack, the US planned to strike government held districts in Damascus as a “response,” according to the Chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov.
Russian armed forces will respond if the lives of Russian servicemen in Syria are threatened, including in the event of a missile strike on Damascus, the Russian General Staff said, according to the Sputnik.
“According to reports, after the false flag attack, the US plans to accuse the Syrian government troops of using chemical weapons, and to provide the world community with the so-called ‘evidence’ of the alleged mass death of civilians at the hands of the Syrian government and “Russia supporting it,” the chief of the General Staff said. In retaliation, Washington, according to Gerasimov, “plans to launch a missile strike on the government-held districts of Damascus.”
At the same time in Damascus, in the offices and facilities of the Ministry of Defense of Syria, there are now Russian military advisers, representatives of the Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties and military police, Gerasimov stressed.
“We have reliable information about militants preparing to falsify a government chemical attack against civilians. In several districts of Eastern Ghouta, a crowd was assembled with women, children and old people, brought from other regions, who were to represent the victims of the chemical incident, ” Gerasimov said.
According to Gerasimov, “White Helmets” activists and film crews had already arrived at the scene with satellite video transmitters are already in place.
“This has been confirmed by the discovery of a laboratory for the production of chemical weapons in the village of Aftris, which was liberated from terrorists,” Gerasimov stressed.
“Despite constant attempts by militants to disrupt peace initiatives in Eastern Ghouta, the situation in the suburb of Damascus shows a trend toward stabilization. Since the entry into force of UN Security Council Resolution 2401 of February 24, 2018, [a total of] 145 civilians and 13 representatives of armed opposition, including 76 people overnight, have been withdrawn from Eastern Ghouta though the humanitarian corridor created by the Russian Federation,” Gerasimov added.
The statement comes a day after US Envoy to UN Nikky Haley threatened with Washington’s strike against Damascus in case the chemical weapons use in Syria.
In his turn, Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that Nusra Front* militants used chemical weapons in East Ghouta, injuring 30 civilians.
Earlier, US Director of National Intelligence said that Trump Administration is considering new attacks against the Syrian Government in response to reports of chemical weapons’ use.
Damascus has constantly denied being in possession of chemical weapons, the destruction of which had been confirmed by the OPCW report.
When commenting on allegations of the Syrian army’s use of chlorine in Eastern Ghouta, Syrian President Bashar Assad said that there are aimed at justifying an attack on Damascus.
Earlier, UN Resolution 2401, which was passed by the Security Council on February 24, urged the parties to the Syrian conflict to stop all fighting’s and adhere to a humanitarian pause across the country in order to ensure the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.

Pentagon denies US fleet deployed in
Mediterranean to protect ExxonMobil

WASHINGTON
The Pentagon on March 8 denied allegations that the U.S. naval forces were deployed to the eastern Mediterranean to provide protection for the drilling operations of one of America’s largest oil and gas companies.
“There is no truth to the allegation that the U.S. 6th Fleet is in the Eastern Mediterranean to protect ExxonMobil,” Johnny Michael, spokesperson for the United States European Command (EUCOM), said in a written statement sent to state-run Anadolu Agency.
The Pentagon official’s remarks came shortly after some Greek Cypriot media outlets had suggested that the U.S. 6th fleet will accompany an Exxon exploration vessel in its hydrocarbon activities in the disputed areas of the eastern Mediterranean against a potential Turkish military intervention.
“The Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group and 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit [MEU] are currently conducting a regularly scheduled deployment to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations,” Michael said.
He elaborated that the USS Iwo Jima and units from the 26th MEU arrived in Israel on March 6 to participate in the exercise Juniper Cobra, which is a part of a long-standing agreement between EUCOM and the Israeli Defense Forces.
Also mentioning the alleged ship, the Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ship USS Oak Hill, Michael noted that the ship and the embarked Marines from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit entered the Black Sea on March 7 to participate in the Romanian-led amphibious exercise to strengthen combined naval capability among the U.S. allies and partners in the region.
Speaking anonymously due to restrictions on talking to the media, another official from the Pentagon also denied the allegations, saying that the deployment of the ships took place as a part of a regular scheduled deployment.
Turkish security sources had already dismissed the reports and told state-run Anadolu Agency that Greece and Greek Cyprus had tried to deceive the public by making such allegations.
Tension running high in eastern Mediterranean
Tension between Turkey, Greek Cyprus and Greece has been rising in recent months after Nicosia unilaterally accelerated its hydrocarbon activities around the island of Cyprus.
It was reported that the Turkish naval forces blocked an exploration vessel of Italian energy company ENI off the southeastern coasts of the island, known as block three.
Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots say this block is part of the economic zone of the northern part of the island.
On March 7, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım reiterated Turkey’s stance that unilateral activities around Cyprus for hydrocarbons will not be tolerated.
“Neither Turkey nor Northern Cyprus would accept any unilateral initiatives regarding the natural resources around the island,” Yıldırım said at a press conference in Ankara following a meeting with his Turkish Cypriot counterpart Tufan Erhürman.
Yıldırım underlined that people from both sides of the disputed island should be involved in any activities regarding the extraction of underground resources off Cyprus.
“We consider any work which both parties do not agree to a threat as well as an attempt to breach the sovereign rights of Northern Cyprus,” said the Turkish prime minister.
Also on March 7, Turkish Presidential Spokesman İbrahim Kalın stated that the United States’ 6th fleet has not yet arrived off Cyprus.
“We are also reading such news [from the press]. But we have no information that the deployment of the 6th fleet [off Cyprus] has been realized,” Kalın told reporters.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when a Greek Cypriot coup was followed by violence against the island’s Turks, and Ankara’s military intervention as a guarantor power.
It has seen an on-and-off peace process in recent years, including the collapse of a 2017 initiative in Switzerland under the auspices of guarantor countries Turkey, Greece, and Britain.

MoD claims some chemicals, dozens of detonating fuses disguised as packs of cigarettes been delivered to town of Dariya. More staged attacks being planned in towns of Al Ghabid, Qalb Loze 25 km NW of Idlib to where 20 containers of chlorine been delivered.

Meaning the potential of thousands of Marines are awaiting landing on Syria’s coastline along with their tanks APCs artillery and all the hell that comes with Marines right after the potential air attacks from the Red Sea and Persian Gulf.
Problem with this is Russians have large naval army and air assets at several bases Kmeimin and Tartus on the coast. If these air attacks take place and the Russians shoot them down. That’s it — there is no going back.

UN officials have been advised to leave Damascus urgently.

firstly it is CONFIRMED that France is requesting journalists to leave Syria. It is also CONFIRMED that the UN have been asked to move from Damascus.
France CONFIRMED they HAVE asked to form a coalition to strike the Assad regime in response to chlorine attacks.
It is DISPUTED that the US have informed Russia of any strikes in Syria at this time. Normal procedure is to give the Russian’s about 1 hour warning. There has been no warning yet.
The carrier group in the region is on usual station; it is supposed to be there. That said, it is CONFIRMED that cruise missile equipped ships are indeed positioning in various places.
It is also CONFIRMED there has been some deployment of bomber aircraft out of the USA.
In sum, there is certainly some prep work going on but I don’t think the go signal has been given yet. That said, plenty of pieces moving on the board.

Below is map showing the previous deployment of forces in the eastern Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Syria in 2013. I am told that the PRESENT deployment is larger and that “this is an explosion waiting to happen . . .”
A total of five Russian warships, frigates and corvettes, two refueling ships, an electronic escort ship and three submarines equipped with cruise missiles (conventional propulsion but two of the new Kilo II class) are currently east of Crete.

NATO Warships in Corfa, Greece Harbor – 20 hours from Syria
With tensions rising quickly over actions taking place inside Syria, the US began positioning naval assets in the eastern Mediterranean, the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf, leading Russian military spokesmen to say they believe the US is planning another missile attack upon Syria. Russia directly warned the US not to undertake another attack, making clear Russia would shoot down any missiles and attack any platform which launched them (i.e. ships).
But it appears the US has a little surprise for Russia; three NATO naval exercises have just finished in or near the Mediterranean and as of Monday, another thirteen NATO warships and six NATO submarines will be conveniently located about 20 hours away from the Syrian coastline.
NATO’s major Mediterranean Sea anti-submarine warfare exercise Dynamic Manta got underway at the Italian port of Catania on Monday, March 5. [1]
The two-week drill took place in the Ionian Sea and was joined by navies from 10 allied countries.
Dynamic Manta is an annual NATO exercise in the Mediterranean Sea aimed at providing complex and challenging scenarios for anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare skills development.
Last year’s edition of the exercise saw the participation of nine submarines, 10 surface ships and nine maritime patrol aircraft.
Submarines so far confirmed to be taking part in Dynamic Manta 2018 include Royal Canadian Navy submarine HMCS Windsor, Hellenic Navy submarine HS Matrozos, Turkish submarine TCG Preveze and Spanish Navy’s ESPS Mistral.

Second Naval Exercise
Another NATO naval exercise “Ariadne”, took place in the Ionian Sea, was completed late Friday and by Saturday at noon four naval ships of NATO were tied up to the shore in the harbor of Corfu, Greece. [2]
The navy squadron, whose ship’s crews number 168 men and women, will remain on the island until Monday, while on Saturday afternoon officers of the naval vessels also visited the Ionian Islands Regional Authority Theodoros Galiazatos.
Meanwhile in the Red Sea
The Egyptian and French navies have started a joint drill in the Red Sea, the Egyptian Armed Forces has said.[3]
The exercises, scheduled to last several days, come within the framework of partnership and military cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries, a military statement said on Tuesday, Xinhua news agency reported.
A number of Egypt’s naval units, including the Mistral helicopter carrier, frigates and rocket launchers, participated in the naval drill, along with several French military boats and frigates, it added.
The joint drill aims to boost the maritime security and strengthen the combat efficiency of the naval forces of the two countries, in order to get ready for any joint missions under any circumstances, according to the statement.
The recent years have witnessed increasing military ties between Cairo and Paris.
Put simply, if the U.S. decides to launch another missile attack upon Syria, (Reported HERE) the Russian intent to strike back would be a deadly mistake doomed to failure. While the US naval presence is formidable on its own, adding another 13 ships and six submarines tips the scale of power to insurmountable. It would be suicide for Russia to strike back.
