Public Decorum Is Gone like the Dinosaur

You’ve probably no doubt noticed how base and low society has become overall. It’s like watching a cancer destroy the health of a person, knowing that in the end, they will simply die, unable to fight back because the cancer will overwhelm their immune system. Yet, the maddening thing is that it appears so many want this “cancer” to destroy society completely. They long for, look for, and work for a society that is “socialistic” where people get “free” things, with all their needs taken care of. Socialism breeds corruption and laziness, but don’t tell those who seek it. They will tell you it is the answer to life’s problems.

Society is truly devolving and there is little push back against it. In fact, many within society actively encourage going as low as possible. This is rewarded with applause, media engagements, book sales, and “likes” on numerous social network websites. Authentic Christians can only wonder how low and bad things will get before there is a serious attempt to turn things around? The truth of course is that Scripture repeatedly tells us that the “end times,” “latter days,” or “last days” will be fraught with terrible times. We’re living in it now.

Years ago, as a young boy, I vividly recall going to the Fresno Fair as a family. It was generally a nice time. It was back in a day when there really wasn’t that much to worry about. Besides, we were safe in the knowledge that our parents kept a close watch on us and things around us.

As we were leaving the fairgrounds, there were several teenagers just behind us, involved in their own conversation. At one point, I heard my dad talking and as I turned around, I realized he was talking to one young men. Dad was chiding them for their off-color language used in public that he didn’t like because it was being said around my mom and my sister and me. I’d heard my dad swear before but he rarely did so in public. The norm at the time was that language spoken in public was that which was edifying. Swear words were rarely uttered and when they were, usually people were quick to apologize for using them if they had used them in front of women or children. Hard to believe this was in the 1960’s.

In the case of the two teenagers, they had used the word that rhymes with “ham” but starts with a “d.” By today’s standards, that’s nothing. However, then it was something and my father reminded them that there were “little” ears and a lady present.

Unlike the reaction that he would’ve gotten today, these two teenagers were extremely embarrassed and chagrined. Their faces turned beat red as they walked quickly along in front of us to get way beyond us.

Some 50 years later, society is at a different place. We are being told that there are not simply two genders, but up to 13. We are told that men can “identify” as women. We are told that we should stop using “he,” “she” in favor of “them” or “they.” The use of the F bomb is normal today. In fact, it is so versatile that it can be used for any part of speech as a fill-in the blank. The F bomb was not even on the radar when I was a kid. I don’t recall hearing it at all then. Hollywood would like us to think otherwise though when they include it even in westerns that supposedly took place in the 1700 -1800’s.

With respect to public decorum, it’s become seriously abysmal with anything acceptable. I watched a clip from CNN the other day where one guest was arguing with another guest. The first guest (a Leftist) argued that the President has no right to remove anyone’s security clearance. Actually, the president has every right to remove anyone’s security clearance. If a person no longer works for the federal government, there is no reason he/she should have security clearance anymore.

As you can imagine, the two people on CNN got into a shouting match with the first guest using the F bomb several times – on live TV – and telling the other guest (conservative) to get out of the studio. The first guest was a guest. It was not his show and he was telling the other guest to leave. The second guest shot back with, “This is not your show” and generally kept his composure.

Since the election of Donald J. Trump, we’ve watched as many on the Left have become thoroughly unhinged. Savage language, wishing people dead, yelling at people during interviews and other things have become power for the course that society has set itself on.

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive,disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless,swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. (1 Timothy 3:1-5 ESV)

Imagine how the apostle Paul’s heart must have felt as he wrote the words above as inspired by the Holy Spirit. What a terrible picture of society that God provided to Paul!

When Paul says these people have “the appearance of godliness, but (are) denying its power,” he is saying that they are actually denying the ability of God to change their character. This applies to false prophets/charlatans within religious circles as well as charlatans outside of religious circles. The first groups uses the trappings of religion while the second group uses the politically correct social justice. Both groups do this for their own personal gain.

For both groups, Paul has a directive that we need to heed. He says to “Avoid such people.” He’s not saying that we should hate people like that. He’s simply saying that we should go out of our way to avoid them because not only do they offer us nothing, but the more we hang around them, the greater the chances of our becoming like them. This is how the sin nature works within us always attempting to destroy our fellowship with God in Christ. It’s like the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics stating essentially that things left to themselves go from order to disorder (chaos).

What is their main problem? The people described by Paul are liars and there are many today who have been and/or are in leadership positions within religious and secular institutions who lie all the time. They do this to save themselves, while they attempt to project an air of respectability for themselves. Whether they are false prophets/religious charlatans or politicians/business leaders, the problem stems from the exact same thing. They wish to elevate themselves at all costs and integrity does not come into play.

It seems clear that society will not turn around for the better, certainly not any time soon. In fact, the Bible tells us that things will grow progressively worse until He returns.

We gave up cable over a year ago and good riddance. We have Internet only and use that to watch television, choosing only the programs we want to watch and without commercial interruptions. Most are old TV shows and old movies. I rarely watch sports anymore either, unless it’s college ball. Most of what’s on is simply part of the Hollywood cesspool. Hollywood works hard to foster new “norms” that it can foist onto society through television, movies, video games, and music. It’s all done on purpose.

Gone are the days when stars/celebs were actually conservative (whether they were or not in actuality is not the point; they portrayed themselves as conservative). The sad fact is that if you want to continue being relevant in Hollywood today, bashing conservatism, non-PC morality, the Bible, Christianity, Trump and other things like these is a requirement. Gays, Muslims, feminists, illegal aliens, transgenderism, gender fluidity, sanctuary cities, socialism, democrats, etc., are all off-limits unless mentioned in a positive way. Hollywood has an agenda to push and they will only use and reward those sold out to it.

During President Obama’s time in office, Mrs. Obama was heard saying to a crowd of supporters, “When they go low, we go high.” She was referring to conservatives (they) and Dems (we), accusing conservatives of always going low. The truth is that it is the Left which is racing to get to the lowest place on the ladder. They constantly outdo themselves with disgusting memes and vitriol that proves just how low they can go.

Mrs. Obama’s statement is a great meme but it would be even better if it was truthful Unfortunately, this is something the Left simply says, giving lip service to it, for the sake of accolades and applause, but actually doing and saying things prove how low they can actually go. This is done daily with AntiFa’s violence, lies of MSM talking heads, comedians and others who spew their violent rhetoric, lies, and vitriol on a daily basis. I’ve lost count how many people have actually wished out loud for President Trump’s death. It’s despicable. As much as I disagreed with President Obama I never entertained that thought and I think he nearly did irreparable damage to the USA.

It is important for Christians to understand that this world is not the be-all, end-all for us. We are passing through to our eternal destination. There are still some beautiful things in this world that we can enjoy, but the growing problems we face from society are also crowding out those beautiful things.

The fact remains that we have a heavenly calling. Society is sinking fast in a quagmire of its own making. Step away from those things that do not benefit you. Do not participate. Preach the Gospel in word and deed. Pray without ceasing. Trust the Lord. I think we’ve gone past the point of no return.
