As a writer, you will constantly be thinking of new ideas for a book and you will want to start incorporating so many new ideas in your work. No doubt the urge of wanting to tell others more of your story is hard to resist – even after you publish your first novel.

Choosing the Ideal Story Concept

One of the first thing you need to think about is where your story can actually be stretched out into several books or not. If your story does not stretch out, then do not force it.

Keep in mind that you need to identify the right genre and themes that work well with a series such as fantasy, mythology, and adventure which works the best. In fact, many novel series that have incorporated these genres have become best-selling novels around the world.

Plot Structures

Depending on how big you want to write your story such as a trilogy or 20 sequels in your series, your main objective should be based on a plot structure and a plot outline. Once that is done, you will be able to identify topics covered and any themes that you want to explore in each volume.

Also, it would be best to restrict your series into trilogies if you are just starting out – this way you will not have too much or too little and it will be easier to stretch out your story and streamline it in a more effective way.

Characters are Key

A lot of beginner authors do not know this but your characters are the bread and butter of an exceptional story and the main thing keeping your readers engaged and moving forward.

When planning a book series, you will need to focus on making your characters strong, unique, well-defined, and poignant. To achieve this, you will need to give them a lot of personality and a strong purpose to show that they belong in every part of your story.
