HP's Sex Scandal, Soft Porn, and Jodie Fisher

I know Jodie Fisher, the contractor involved in the HP sex scandal. I directed her in a movie back in the early 90′s.

My mom helped me break into film. She had a friend who was “a distributor” of adult content back in the day. I landed in LA in the middle of a recession in the early 90’s – and nobody was shooting anything – except for my mom’s friend. He was producing erotic content for Showtime, Cinemax, aka “Skinamax”, and Playboy Channel, and needed an experienced film director to shoot for him regularly.

So began my Hollywood career as a filmmaker – directing “soft core”.

Over the years, I have shot with some of the biggest stars in the adult business – as well as with some greats in the mainstream business too.

However, it’s always particularly funny to me when one of my movies is directly or indirectly involved in a scandal – which – believe it or not – has happened quite a few times in the last twenty years.

I think the press likes the provocative soft core sex angle.

Enter Intimate Obsession. That was the second feature film I ever produced and directed. Yesterday, It was referenced in a blog looking into the woman involved in the “sex scandal” that rocked HP, caused CEO Mark Hurd’s abrupt resignation, and dropped HP’s stock by 10%.

That would be Jodie Fisher. For the record, she was an awesome actress to work with, and I felt very lucky that I had her on my second film. Even back then, she was a remarkable person.

Unfortunately, in our relentlessly sexually repressed culture, Jodie is described as former “soft core porn” actress. To be honest, if you wanted to work in the early 90’s, soft core was the only regular gig in town. That’s why so many people have done it.

But really, it’s much ado about nothing. Do we really care whether or not a person shows his or her body on camera. Really.

If you happen to buy the film for it’s soft core content, you will be so disappointed, because it’s barely an “R” by today’s standards. But hey, why not attempt to destroy Jodie’s credibility by calling her out. She gets a blog mention as a soft core “porn” actress no less, and he gets a reported 40 – 50 million dollar severance package. That’s fair.

With all that extra capital, maybe he can start his own soft porn company, and practice leaving the employees alone. He needs to do what all the other DB Hollywood producers do and focus on trying to have sex with the young starlets.
