How Can Web Designers Speed Up Using Mobile Websites?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Having a fast website is very crucial not only for the users but also for search engines like Google keeping your bottom line profits high. Users, no doubt, would love to search those websites which can load faster and save our precious time. An extra second can have a huge impact on your page views and conversion rates. The slow loading time can prevent users from returning to the site. Here, we’ll highlight how web designers can speed up using mobile websites.

What is Web Design?

In broad terms, web design includes the design of user websites or web applications. Web design has always been playing a vital role in attracting the visitors to the website. However, modern web design is not only about designing and creating the appearance of a website in a graphic version, but also it layouts using HTML and CSS. Layout languages are constantly being improved and are developing day by day.

What is a Good Page Load Time?

Surprisingly, there is a 25% decrease in conversion rates with just an extra one second of loading time. About 79% of customers would not return to a site having a poor loading performance.

If your page takes more than three seconds to load, there is a loss of almost half the visitors before arriving to that site which will definitely make a huge decrease in the potential conversions.

For every one second improvement in the site’s speed, there is up to 2% increase in conversions.

What Web Designers Can Do to Speed Up Mobile Site Performance?

There are a lot of different steps that can be taken to increase the browsing speed. Let’s talk about the 5 best practices that can be done to decrease the loading time

and improve the site’s performance and users experience.

1. Activating Google Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP)

Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP), for short is a speedy design trick for the mobile webs. AMP uses ultra-minimalistic HTML to speed up the loading time of the page on mobile devices. Initially, AMP was released to help publishers strip down their blog or news sites to load faster on mobile devices. However, AMP is a framework of web components that can be used to design whole websites or specific parts of it (like blog posts). Once it is implemented, the page loads faster as a result for a search. Google’s AMP on the website pages can make the page look great and make loading speed fast at the same time. But why does an AMP load so fast? It is to be noted that AMP can only load asynchronous JavaScript and online CSS on the website, which means that the code won’t be blocked or delay the page rendering. Images are another source of slower loading times. However, AMP solves this issue by automatically loading the page layout (e.g. images, ads, etc.).

2. Minimize HTTP requests:

HTTP requests is one of the biggest killers of site speed. A request appears when a browser asks for HTML or CSS files from a server. Thus, the components, such as images, scripts, Flash, or style sheets, are there on the page, the more requests will appear and the longer the load time it will take. Thus minimizing the use of images, scripts, Flash, style sheet will result in minimization of HTTP requests hence, decrease in loading speed of a website. The easiest way to increase your mobile site speed is to simplify the design.

Use of CSS instead of images, if possible. Effects such as rounded corners, shadows, and gradients can be easily done with the help of CSS. This results in speeding up the site’s performance.                                                                                     Putting the scripts at the bottom of the page. It helps in loading the HTML content first which does not allow the users to wait for the script to finish downloading.                                                                                                                                            Combine images into a CSS sprite sheet, the images that are larger contain different images that are needed to be used in the design which results In reduce the references to individual images and boost your mobile store loading speed.

3. Optimizing Images

One of the most common culprits for slow websites is a large full-sized unoptimized image. Large images (larger than 2-3 MB) consume a lot of loading and use a lot of server resources. Huge images on a web page means it will take a lot of time to get loaded so to speed things up, compressed images should be used. Using too many images on a web page can also slow down the loading speed of that website. Therefore, when optimizing an image the main focus should be on three things: size, format, and the number of images used. Before uploading an image it should be cropped to a correct size of 1200×1200 pixel which will be acceptable for both retina and regular displays.

4. Content Delivery Network (CDN)

Content Delivery Network or (CDN) helps a website in enhancing its loading speed by rendering the web pages to the customers from their nearest data centre. The loading speed of the web pages would be slower if the user is far away from a server. Therefore, CDN helps web pages to render for the users from their nearest data centre which decreases the request time for both client to the server and server to the client. As a result, a lot of surfing is experienced for the users. When CDN is not installed it takes a lot of time to load a page. Therefore, when CDN is installed it takes a very short time to load a page.

5. Java Script Codes

There are a lot of browsers that do not support JavaScript codes resulting in a slow down of the loading speed of the websites. Hence, it would be a wonderful idea for the web sites to decrease the JavaScript codes as much as possible and try to use other browsers that can support javascript.

Conclusion

All versions of your website, especially mobile, must be optimized to speed up the website. These problems are faced when you choose a company to aid you and they don’t really know how to go about the process.

That means the design, the code, the content and everything else within and around it must be optimized- Adopting these best ongoing practices surely will

speed up your mobile site’s performance and help your users give the best experience. There are various web design companies in India and the surplus of the same makes the design of whom to choose, more confusing, especially If you’re in Delhi so, focus on doing a thorough research and then, pick the web design company in Delhi that meets your needs!
